Exceptional Staff and Hotel Experience

May 2022 | James_Cyprus

It’s hard to begin to describe our stay at Elysium Boutique Hotel, so I will attempt to write it in a way I think will resonate with someone choosing between this hotel and another in the area. We arrived quite late in the evening, well beyond the closing time of dinner service. We were greeted by an incredibly friendly young man named Mandrin who welcomed us from our taxi with the warmest smile, visible even through his covid-compliant mask. This welcome extended every single day between Mandrin, George and the front of house staff Antonis and Georgia as well as others. We were then brought to reception to check in and each given a large glass of complimentary champagne to welcome us to the hotel - a lovely touch. We then got to meet the Guest Experience Manager, Chrysa. I had been secretly liaising with her prior to our arrival as I wanted to surprise my wife with something special. After a brief email exchange, Chrysa had organised our private transport from the airport, booked a table at the hotel’s Bliss Restaurant, with prime seating overlooking the beach and a beautiful greek-orthodox chapel, for the next evening of our arrival. We were looked after by Amanda and Zafeiroula (among others) who really made that evening special). We were then led to the dining area and provided a plate of food of fresh produce (cheeses and meats, etc.) which was incredibly welcome after our journey. Again, this is something they didn’t have to do, but happily offer their guests. Throughout our stay, Chrysa was exceptional - she helped us book excursions to Knossos and taxis to Heraklion whenever we needed. She was warm, friendly and it was a pleasure to be looked after by her and her team throughout our stay. We arrived into our room with a welcome cake congratulating us on our wedding which was incredibly touching. The rooms were spotless and well maintained. We really liked the option of a private pool with lounger directly outside our room. It was a bit colder for this time of year to enjoy it to the fullest, but in the height of summer, I can only imagine how amazing the private pool would be. Over the course of our 6-night stay, we got to know on a personal level, the incredible restaurant staff, headed by the forever-joyful Rasti and his team. Alexandra, Toncho (and so many others!) had an uncanny ability to remember names and four digit room numbers. The chefs’ buffet service was of exceptional quality and was different every single day, as well as being vegetarian-friendly when asked. The brilliant bar manager Costantinos ran a well-stocked bar with fantastic team including Zoe and many others and was incredibly knowledgeable in offering well-known and original cocktails. (My wife’s favourite was the Watermelon-vodkito!) Now, we did not book all-inclusive on this occasion as we were not sure what to expect, but we would certainly consider it next time around as the food was worth it and the drinks on offer are not carbon-copy/poor imitations of brands available in other countries/resorts; but instead, very good quality. We were also able to enjoy both a complimentary 15-minute massage of our choice in the spa, as well as a lengthier session as well - both of which were incredibly relaxing. The multicultural nature of the staff works so well in that all are fluent in many languages (incredibly useful for the global clientele), yet all shared the common Greek tongue to mitigate any miscommunication; as well as a good grasp of English all round. With a combination of seasonal workers and long-term staff, the unity between everyone was exceptional. Everything boils down to the company culture. Something many companies could learn from. When asking my newly wedded wife what her best part of our honeymoon in Crete was; thinking she might say the sea, the sites or even the history of this beautiful island; she answered plainly and simply “the wonderful staff at our hotel.” These are not simply employees in a job moving from day to day. They love what they do from a genuine, deep-rooted place that’s hard to explain without observing it in person. It is incredibly refreshing to see and you could see that guests from all around shared their enthusiasm and laughter and had an equally positive stay at the hotel. Over the years we’ve had the luck and pleasure of staying at different hotels around the world and none have come close to the level of care and personalisation this hotel and its team offers. It’s easy to see why they have won so many hospitality awards in recent years. I’m not particularly the one for writing reviews; but such is the experience we have received that I felt compelled to say that I would highly recommend this hotel. We are both already looking forward to visiting the staff, let alone the hotel again. We would like to thank you all personally for making our honeymoon as special as it was. Sas Efxaristoume!

Enjoyable but underwhelming

My partner booked here for my 30th bday, and was very looking forward to this holiday since our last holiday was 2020, the hotel is lovely and pool area is great however the rooms are very dark really bad lighting felt like I was in a cheap 2 star room, our bath blocked kettle didn’t work hairdryer didn’t work and the aircon wasn’t great either, there was cracks on the walls in the bathroom The balcony was probably the only good thing about the room we had a basic room no pool , the balcony was massive with big bean bag chairs to lie on was great! We were looking to upgrade for a pool room for the last few days and was told no the rooms where reserved and not a single person was in the rooms below us for the full week. The buffet wasn’t the best either very basic, I like to know what things are before putting it on my plate and there was nothing to show what things were , obviously you know what chips ect are but you didn’t know what kind of pasta that was or the curry ect so was very hard to eat The bliss restaurant was amazing , we didn’t get told our first meal was free until we got our bill at the end of our trip The staff are absolutely delightful to speak to was always happy to help and have a chat , AMANDA that works in the bliss restaurant was my favourite so lovely We spent most of our time in the private beach which is absolutely beautiful staff always came down with drinks ect as we were all inclusive Our stay was still great and very peaceful which we really wanted however we understand we came just at the end of April before much has really opened so there’s not much to do , would say you’d like here if you are over 40 and looking for a very quiet holiday There was no entertainment either Maybe because we came so early before the season started but I don’t even know where they would have this as the hotel is small Overall I wouldn’t come back to this hotel for the price you can get a better hotel further up from it , it’s definitely not a 5 star
