Wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday

Jan 2022 | holidayseeker
Had a wonderful 12-night holiday here over Christmas and New Year. Firstly, the positives. We stayed in the Esencia part of the hotel as it wasn’t much more expensive when we booked. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and are cleaned every day. They have a fridge and fresh water was left for us every day. There is also a kettle and coffee but as we were all inclusive, we had our coffee in the bar or restaurant so never used it. Wonderful hotel grounds with beautiful trees and plants and kept immaculately. Nice walk to a lovely beach from the Esencia area but sun beds are not free on the beach. Lots of scope for long walks in both directions and also a cliff top walk to Esquinzo and of course we had a daily sea swim. Staff were always friendly and helpful except for one grumpy guy who emptied the bins around the pool Food was wonderful in the Food Market buffet especially the Christmas and New Year’s Eve Gala which was just amazing with even lobster on the menu . I don’t know how anyone could ever complain about the huge choice of dishes available every night. Sometimes you had to queue for the main roast but never more than a couple of minutes, even on Christmas and New Year’s Eve they kept it all flowing well. One of the best All-inclusive buffets we’ve been to and they never ran out of any of the choices. The desserts and cakes were even good, and we often had a coffee and cake at the Mirador in the afternoon We had breakfast and lunch at the Sirocco restaurant overlooking the sea, smaller selection of food but cooked freshly and less crowded and nice outdoor tables. Lovely Paella every day. Drinks were fine but they could have had a few more cocktails on the all-inclusive menu. They made a great gin and tonic. No need to upgrade. Loved the cocktail and prosecco cart that came round the Esencia pool every day around 1 noon also prosecco and orange juice to make Bucks Fizz available every morning for breakfast We got a free safe and free wifi for our whole trip everywhere in the hotel The staff made Christmas day feel special by starting off singing carols at breakfast. It was handy that we could get our pre departure Covid tests in the hotel took just 5- 10 min. Some negatives but they did not spoil our holiday in any way I’m mentioning them more as feedback for the hotel on how they could improve No one told us that there was a separate area to check in for Esencia and we stood for 30 min in line for the main hotel and then shown where to go where there was no line but not a big issue. The shower in the room was poor kept changing temperature and you were either freezing or scalded. The Pool area at Esencia had only 1 male and 1 female toilet for the whole pool the Coral Bar and the Mirador restaurant so there was usually a queue, they need more. The adult pool in the main part of the hotel wasn’t heated like the other pools Why? I think it would be a good idea to keep the Esencia part as the adult only area. Lovely ice cream at the adult only bar beside the adult pool in main part of hotel but always a long queue. Due to Covid the gym only allowed one person at a time even though we were a couple, so we didn’t bother plenty of nice long walks instead Nothing around the hotel at all except big supermarket so all inclusive necessary. Two beach cafes but they weren’t always open The entertainment was poor in the theatre it was just the team miming to different musicals or songs every night. There was usually a singer at the sports bar, but they started at 9 took a 45 min break at 9.30 just when we usually came out from dinner and then finished at 11. We don’t really care about entertainment, so it wasn’t an issue but the 45 min break in a 2-hr performance seemed excessive. The sun beds are bolted down so you can’t move them in and out of the shade which meant that many people took over several beds so they could have shade and sun as they wished. I like the sun my husband likes the shade, so it was awkward. The sun beds were very comfortable however and the free pool towels a good size. The Mirador restaurant which is for the Esencia guests only was very poor compared to the main Food Market restaurant. We expected the food to be better there as it was in the exclusive part but very poor choice of buffet with cheap ingredients. They had themed nights e.g. Asian night but it was very poor. Stick with the Food Market . For Christmas and New Year, you had to book a specific table and there was always a long queue for this booking as it involved a very old-fashioned method for writing it all down on paper. The hotel puts all the information on the hotel app so surely tables could be booked on it or a computer could be used to speed the process up. On Christmas night and more especially New Year’s Eve there were long queues to get into the restaurant as everyone was going at same time 6.30 or 8.30 and had to be shown to their table. On New Year’s Eve we weren’t seated until 9.15. Much better just to let everyone choose a sitting and come when they liked. But the tables were nicely decorated and as I said before the food was wonderful and we really enjoyed both evenings. We enjoyed dressing up for the Gala evenings. It states formal wear but for men a jacket and tie and for ladies a nice dress was the norm with a bit of glitter on New Year’s Eve. Overall, it was a great hotel, and I would recommend a holiday there without reservation Although the hotel can’t take credit for this the weather was amazing, sunny with clear blue skies about 24-26 c almost every day and none of the wind we were expecting on Fuerteventura.

Nice hotel but not for me

Jan 2022 | Janbrunton
Notes on hotel 1. It is a nice hotel but I would not come back - that is a personal choice because of the ramps/hills etc - site is too spread out for me to cope. Access to many areas is not the best for anyone with any mobility/breathing issues who find inclines difficult. Also other hotels are nearer shops/bars/restaurants etc when you need/want a change of venue. 2. A. Not sure why Ecencia is 20€ a day more ? & I was overcharged - it should have been 10 nights NOT 11, (I will not be here on the 29/12 - wonder how many more have been overcharged ) I have to presume it’s for the standard of rooms -hmm ?? B. Mirador restaurant (for Ecencia guests, which is not open on a Sunday & Monday night) food is fairly good in this restaurant , especially breakfast & some of the themed nights. C. Coral chill out bar next to Mirador is not very big., so you may have a problem if you don’t want to trek up to the very large sports bar or the bar in reception . D. A very nice touch is the trolley that comes round every day with prosseco, a different cocktail every day & fruit skewers. E. You do not pay for beach towels . F. It would be nice tho if is was an adult only area ??? G. I’ve also just seen this am (Xmas day ) a group of people come into the “so called “ private Ecencia area - no wristbands so presume they are guests ? 3. Why oh why are the sunbeds screwed to the floor around the Escencia pool area ?? This means family’s r spread out around the pool. 4. Some days there is “live” music around the Mirador restaurant area - I use that term very very loosely !! 5. Some of the staff are lovely , others are a bit rude - especially when reminding you about your mask 6. Rooms are tidied every day - towels & bedding changed frequently even on Xmas day !! 7. The “Food court “ is a large noisy space & this is where they are serving Xmas dinner !!! (See point number 8) It’s reminds me of a very well known large high street store cafe !!! Not made it to the Sirroco restaurant - those inclines definitely putting me off. 8. Xmas dinner !!! Where do I start !!!it was a nightmare,After paying for Ecencia I personally would have paid extra for the Mirador to have been kept open on xmas night. The food court was horrendous, queuing to get in - it was like a cattle market, definitely not worth dressing up for - jostling for food. Also the ultimate in discrimination & feeling marginalised & not worthy as a solo traveller, being shoved in a corner - not even in the Ecencia part - & mostly ignored to be perfectly frank. I’ve to put up with the food court the next 2 nights as these are the nights the Mirador is closed !!! Might miss dinner the next 2 nights just have a huge breakfast & lunch !!! 9. Noisy neighbours upstairs to me - constantly moving doors etc both in the evening & early morning. 10. I have to say as well - once more I feel ignored and marginalised as a solo traveller - we pay to come on holiday just the same as everyone else. I know they would prefer two people in rooms but for some of us that’s not going to happen

Ok, but not a 4 star

Spent a week on autumn vacation at the hotel Fuerteventura Princess. 2 adults and two children aged 10 + 11 years and stayed in a family room. The rooms was really nice and spacious, we had a double room each with connecting doors. Nice with fridge in the room and water by arrival. Located right by a lovely beach. A bit far outside from a town, but we have rented a car, so it was fine for us. Free parking space outside the hotel. Areas on the hotel was nice with trees and plants. Sunbeds were unfortunately quickly reserved. Check-inn was VERY slow and it was only us and another family waiting… The receptionist did not seem very happy and accommodating. AI drinks was not good, food was ok, but not outstanding. Dinning room was nice but unfortunately many plate was dirty, so not so delicious.
