“A nice short getaway”

We couldn’t find many recent reviews on this hotel so we thought it would be useful to add one. The hotel and surrounding area is beautiful the walk down to Cala Pi beach is just a few minutes (although there are lots of steps so coming back up can feel very steep). The reception is open 24 hours a day and staff were very quick to help with taxis, when we requested a kettle for our room and other small details. There are lockers in reception that go back quite far to add luggage in whilst you are waiting for your room or flight home, these lockers require a €2 coin, each time you open and close the locker if takes another coin (so make sure you have what you need). The hotel apartment room was a good size for the three of us (myself and two teenage daughters), there was a double bed in the bedroom and sofa bed in the living room. The sofa bed was very grubby and could definitely do with a clean and an upgrade. The room was close to the lift so could be a bit noisy and you could hear people moving furniture from the rooms above. The pool was very chilly (but we did arrive towards the end of October), due to time of year there was no entertainment and ice-cream/bar areas around the pool were closed. There is a lovely restaurant towards the front of the hotel this is not included in your half board but is very nice, it has a small convenience store next door which was very pricey and quite limited, they do not sell fresh milk only cartoned and tea bags were €8.50 ! The half board food itself was ok, the breakfast was much better than the dinner, there are no drinks including with your evening meal but the bar is open. There is an awful sewer type smell as you all down towards the restaurant so brace yourself for that ! The hotel itself if pretty isolated, you will require a car or use public transport to visit anywhere other than the Cala Pi beach and walking areas. All in all this was a lovely 3 day getaway and would be perfect for those wanting a quiet holiday away from a busy town and time to relax.

“Terrible Ona Cala Pi”

Very disappointing experience — definitely not a 4-star hotel We stayed at Ona Cala Pi as a family of four — myself, my partner and our two youngest children — and unfortunately, we were very disappointed. Firstly, the rooms are quite old and badly in need of updating. The hotel is advertised as 4-star, but in our experience, it simply does not meet that standard. When booking, I specifically chose a room category where the photos showed two proper double beds. However, when we arrived, there was only one proper double bed, while the second consisted of two separate mattresses that constantly moved apart. One child sleeps with me and the other with their dad, so this was a real problem. It took three or four strongly worded emails before the hotel finally provided a special sheet to hold the two mattresses together. Before that, we were told that they did not have a suitable mattress. Then all four members of our family became ill with viral gastroenteritis. We contacted a doctor through our travel insurance and were effectively confined to the hotel for several days. Viral gastroenteritis is highly contagious, and the hotel staff were fully aware that we were ill. Nevertheless, we were still allowed to use the communal areas and restaurant instead of being offered food delivery to our room or any other safer alternative. We had to walk to the restaurant ourselves to get food, potentially exposing other guests to the infection. When we raised the situation with the hotel, their main response was that it could not be proven that we had contracted the infection at the hotel. We are not claiming that this has been established as a fact. However, when hotel staff know that guests have viral gastroenteritis, we would expect at least some basic care and sensible precautions to protect other guests. We also asked for soiled bedding to be changed and for a warm blanket, but received very little practical assistance. When we asked for a bucket, we were given plastic bags instead. The situation became even more stressful when our hire car was towed away by the police because a temporary parking restriction had been introduced after we had parked the car. As we had been ill and had barely left the hotel for several days, we did not see the new sign. We then had to pay fines, vehicle recovery charges and taxi fares to retrieve the car. The food was another disappointment. The menu was almost the same day after day. This might be acceptable for one or two days, but when you are staying for 11 days, you expect considerably more variety. I would, however, like to say that most of the hotel staff were friendly and pleasant. The main exception was the reception team. In particular, one female member of staff, whom we noticed working there almost every day, was extremely unpleasant in the way she spoke to guests and even raised her voice at us. Her manner of speaking to paying guests was completely inappropriate for someone working in hospitality. Overall, this was advertised as a 4-star stay that certainly did not feel like 4 stars. Old rooms, repetitive food, very little practical support and extremely disappointing customer service. We would not return.

“Think twice before booking here”

The good: The little beach below is pretty unspoiled. Takes about 100 steps to get down there. The apartments are large. The 2 pools are in good condition. There is a small washing machine in the unit with a sep area to hang laundry to dry. The staff try to be helpful but the corporate grip is tight - they apparently can do very little unless they charge you something for it. The bad: The apartments in general are falling apart. Thankful we did not have to use the sleeper sofa as it was dilapidated. The outdoor furniture on the patio is flimsy plastic and the poolside chairs are falling apart with stains and rust. One pool is for kids and one is for adults but this is not monitored, so you have families with babies in the adult pool. The photos don’t show you bathrooms for a reason! The bathroom showers are extra disgusting with black mold growing in the grout. I had to beg for a coffee pot and then what arrived had no filter. I had to beg again. Ridiculous! The front desk will not provide you with more than 1 bathtowel per person plus a shared hand towel and one small kitchen towel. No pool towel is provided and you are ‘not allowed’ to use your bath towel at the pool. Everything you ask for has a fee. You can pay for extra towel service. (I was so irritated that I can’t tell you the charge…). Also you can ‘rent’ a beach towel for 5€ or buy one at their store. And on and on. Lastly, mosquitos are pretty ravenous everywhere in this area so - be prepared. Don’t even think about coming without a car. You are in the middle of nowhere and your food choices here in Cala Pi are very limited. Nearest grocery with any fresh food is in Llucmajor. In summary, if this is an indication of an Ona property, I will avoid them like the plague.

“Fantastic”

Just returned from a short break at Ona Cala Pi. What a great place. Apartment 219 was huge, great balcony, sleek bathroom and spotlessly clean. The grounds were beautifully maintained, pool was a delight and as for the breakfast....I have never seen such a huge variety of food, all fresh and delicious. The staff throughout the resort were so friendly and helpful. The beach is possibly one of the prettiest I've seen, very safe, at the end of September the water was still warm. The village itself is small and quiet, there are 4 or 5 restaurants/bars v close by if you don't want to eat at the resort. Sa Terrassa was great, and One by One if you want somewhere a bit more lively. Public transport is limited so if you want to go further afield you would need a hire car or taxi, personally I'd embrace total relaxation and stay at the resort and beach. Our only suggestion would be a kettle in the kitchen (there was a coffee machine though)
