Once a small, fishing village Torremolinos was redeveloped in the Sixties to become one of Spain’s first fully-fledged beach resorts.

Things to do

If your idea of Torremolinos holidays is to find a sweep of sand and stretch out under the sun, you’ll be spoilt for choice! There are seven sun-kissed beaches just a short stroll from the seafront promenade, starting with the lively La Carihuela and getting smaller and quieter the further east you go.

Stop for lunch at a local chiringuito or visit the marina for a boat trip along the coast. Golfers can challenge themselves on the fairways at Parador Malaga de Golf, while those with children can or ride the slides or splash about in the water playgrounds at Aqualand.

For a delicious, leisurely dinner, try out the local fare and Mediterranean specialities at a waterfront restaurant, or for a lively evening out, head into town and hit the bars.

Excellent beaches

Torremolinos has six main beaches along the 7 kilometre promenade with a wide walkway that links the sandy shores together. Playa El Bajondillo is one of the most popular as it’s easily accessible from the coastline hotels and has a lot of fantastic amenities for a comfortable day at the beach.

Have a bite to eat in the surrounding cafés and restaurants, before relaxing on sun loungers with sounds of the lapping, shallow waves and picturesque views of the coast. Find shade by the swaying palm trees or cool off by taking a dip in the refreshing waters.

For something a little more upbeat, have a go at the various water sports available to you, including pedalos, banana boats, jet skis and paragliding. La Carihuela is another superb beach that’s a little further down the promenade and surrounded by dramatic rock formations.

Culture

The vibrant holiday resort of Torremolinos was quite different before it first transformed in the 1950s. It started out as a quaint fishing village, which is still reflected in the several fresh fish restaurants along the coast. Torremolinos was one of the first major developments on the Costa del Sol and still has an iconic, retro, seaside feel, with the towering hotel complexes and colourful buildings. Holidaymakers flock to the sunny resort for its beautiful beaches, great location just west of Malaga and its vibrant entertainment both day and night.

Vibrant nightlife

There’s a wide choice of entertainment and nightlife to enjoy in Torremolinos. Most of the liveliest bars and clubs can be found on the long main street that runs through the middle of the town. This makes it even easier to enjoy the upbeat atmosphere and roam from bar to bar, sipping on a few cocktails as you go. The younger holidaymakers tend to spend their time by the Los Alamos Promenade for the various Beach Clubs that have resident DJs playing the latest summer tunes until the sun comes up.
