Beach


The resort is situated directly on the golden sands of Martinhal Beach. This wide, sheltered bay is famous for its calm waters and is just a short walk from your room or villa. “Incredible stay at Martinhal”

We stayed for a week at the end of September 2026 with our 3 year old. We stayed in a garden house which had everything we needed. It was spacious, but also appreciated all of the child friendly touches such as plastic tableware, stair gates and toilet seats! The facilities are fantastic here. Every swimming pool has a child’s section so feels very well set up. Also being so close to the beach you have the best of both worlds! We had a car so tended to eat out in Sagres of an evening, and spent 2 evenings in Lagos for dinner. We enjoyed dinner at As Dunas one evening which was great. The playgrounds next to the restaurants are very convenient. I would say Martinhal is great from babies up to the age of 5. Older children may want more facilities and water slides etc. However for younger ages, this is one of the best places we’ve stayed! Overall a fantastic day and would love to return.

“Great family resort, but very expensive for what you get”

Great family resort, but very expensive for what you get We stayed at Martinhal with our 21 month-old twins and overall had a good holiday. There are some really strong points, particularly for families with young children, but there are also areas where we feel the resort needs to improve — especially considering the prices. The good: We stayed in an Ocean View room, which was fabulous. It was very spacious, had a fantastic view and the large sofa on the balcony was a really nice touch. Plenty of room for a family and a lovely place to sit in the evening. The heated pool and kids’ pool were excellent, and there were plenty of water toys available for the children to play with, which was a great touch. The breakfast selection was excellent with plenty of choice. We also had an early flight home and the hotel kindly prepared breakfast packs for us to take with us, which was much appreciated. The staff were also fantastic when our twins were sick one night. We needed extra towels and sheets at around 3am and they brought them up without any fuss. The following day we received two calls checking that the babies were okay, and the cleaners came in to properly clean everything. That level of care and attention was genuinely excellent and deserves recognition. Things to be aware of / could be improved: The biggest issue for us was the pricing. It felt like Dublin prices without quite the same level of quality. The dinners were mostly average. In fact, some of our best meals were the takeaway meals we got from the grill/can on the resort. The prices for drinks and snacks were also hard to justify — €7.50 for a pint of beer and €7 for a basic ice cream sandwich at the pool felt excessive. There is also a €3 additional charge for takeaway food from some of the food vans/restaurants. It's a small amount in the grand scheme of things, but when you're already paying resort prices, it feels unnecessary and is just a little annoying. The daily room cleaning was also disappointing. On the days our room was serviced, it seemed to consist mainly of making the beds and emptying the bins. The floors weren't cleaned and the toilet/bathroom didn't appear to be cleaned either. For a resort at this price point, we'd expect a more thorough daily clean. One other thing worth knowing if you're travelling with young children: the resort isn't particularly buggy-friendly. A lot of the paths are cobbled and there are some very steep hills, so getting around with a buggy can be hard work. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the staff were particularly good, especially when we needed help with the twins. The accommodation, pools and breakfast were all very good. However, the high prices, basic room cleaning and some of the resort's practical shortcomings mean we'd have expected a higher overall standard for the money.

“Very good (but a bit “lazy”)”

Very good set-up for families with kids - ours are 2.5 and 5. This was our second trip, and we will probably return again next year. Stayed in sea-view ocean house, worth the extra over the garden houses (stayed in last year), as they are far more central; also the rough stone paths are awful with strollers. One negative would be the central playground and Bar M area - the concept is great, that parents can have food and drinks overlooking the kids play area, but the play equipment is quite limited/dated, and there's little or no shade; the seating inside and outside the bar is awful, feels like a youth hostel, not a quality resort (we’ve stayed in a couple of Ikos resorts - also popular with families but yet feels properly upmarket). We stayed in September last year, felt it was fairly quiet; we expected it to be much busier this year (mid-August), but it was never a problem getting loungers by the pool or beach. The staff are a bit hit-and-miss - some are great, really friendly and professional, but many others are simply not. My wife described the place as “lazy” - it’s good, but, given just a little more investment and better management, could be so much better, Lastly, on both our visits, nobody ever asked us if we enjoyed our stay or looked for feedback - a small point maybe, but telling nonetheless.

“Pick your villa location very carefully...otherwise one could face restless night!”

Great family resort well maintained with great beach and restaurants....but two main important caveats: 1) open to the public, with no visible security at multi entry points...in fact it is on the public domain which brings me to the second point 2) no control on bin collection time, big containers offloaded at 10-11pm or 4-5am, huge noise if in villas nearby, avoid at 237, 238, and 239...I brought this up to the resort, nothing they can do as dependant on municipality. A shame to enjoy only v short night while on holiday....notwithstanding the thin wall of villas which doesn't help the overall restless experience. Unfortunately no good will gesture from Martinhal despite 4 disrupted nights (out of 7), highly disappointed guests.

“Beautiful spot - lots of kids”

Location, Location, Location! What a nice spot. Pools really busy during the day, lots of small children. Very nice hotel rooms, friendly staff. A bit unreal - theres everything, even a kindergarten-teacher at breakfast!? But the hotel itself is really nicely designed. 3 restaurants- 3 pools.
