Médina Gardens

We arrived at a late hour and were greeted with a refreshing drink and check in was swift. There was time for a few drinks before the bars closed. The room is spacious with a queen sized bed. A bottle of wine and some fruit were left for us which was a lovely gesture. There is a mini fridge stocked daily with fizzy soft drinks and water. Also a tea/coffee tray. Only creamer available though which wasn’t nice for tea. The shower was large and water pressure adequate. A good hairdryer was available so no need to bring one. Plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe and an easy to use safe. The room was serviced daily and towels replenished. Liquid hand soap and shower gel were provided. We found our mattress quite firm but after a quick chat with reception a mattress topper was put on our bed within hours and this made such a difference. We also had difficulty lowering the temperature of the air conditioning - this was rectified half an hour after we reported it. I notice people sometimes make complaints of things that aren’t working properly or are unsatisfactory without giving the hotel a chance to put it right. We were very impressed with the hotels care and attention to our needs. We had a balcony which was nice to sit out on. I noticed swim up rooms and although we didn’t have one of these I did notice that very few people used this and that at times during the day there was no sun on the water outside these rooms. There are two pools. A larger one right next to the hotel. It is livelier here, music playing and activities during the day in the pool. Otherwise you can have loungers throughout the gardens or around or by a quieter pool further into the garden. We preferred the quieter pool and be reassured that there are plenty of sun beds even if you’re a late riser. You exchange a card for a towel each and can exchange these as and when. They don’t quite cover the sun bed so you may want to pack a beach towel also. Some umbrellas are available or you can move your sun bed under trees for shade. The whole area is kept very tidy. You’ll see members of staff regularly collecting glasses up and making sure everything is shipshape. The garden is beautiful and has citrus trees, palms, vegetables and other lush greenery. The garden is kept very well and even has a tortoise enclosure! There are a few bars including one near to the larger pool. Cocktails are pretty basic but drinkable as is the beer. Being an avid wine drinker I was quite impressed with the wine - I had reasonable expectations but found the white wine particularly palatable. I don’t even drink white wine usually. The bars tended to close about midnight. Generally speaking most people collected their own drinks but I suspect a tip might secure a drinks delivery to your sun bed. There is a buffet restaurant, typical of all inclusive. Despite previous reviews that I’ve read, I found it great. A good selection of hot and cold food, salads, local dishes and lots of variety. I didn’t find it repetitive at all. I also noticed a vegan section. You can sit inside which is air conditioned or outside on a covered terrace. There is another restaurant that serves lunch. This has a menu and is served to your table. We enjoyed the Moroccan Salad to start then Tacos ( which were more like hot flat breads) also the burger, pizza and the fish and chips were SO good. As you can tell this place serves less local cuisine, but still was very nice. Once during your holiday you can book here for an a la carte meal. This was delicious and beautifully presented. You can book this on the Tui app which also gives you other information. Next to reception is a bar, you can also get coffee, pastries and filled rolls from here. The evening entertainment was hit and miss, but sadly more miss. This is an area that really could be improved upon. I feel it needs more organisation. For example a ‘poolside disco’ was just loud music at one side of the pool and most guests sitting the other side. There were balloons in the pool and we were waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. There was no one hosting, on a microphone for example. We enjoyed a singer one evening who got people up dancing but other than that we were disappointed. The hotel is a little oasis in the middle of the hub of the craziness of Marrakech. We walked to the souks and square in about 10 minutes and it was a great experience. We ate the street food and although we only ordered kebabs, other side dishes arrived and of course our bill doubled. But hey, it was still only about £25 and part of the experience. Yes you will get pestered to buy but go prepared and a firm no thank you normally works. Better still “La Shokran” and put your hand on your heart. We bartered for some ceramic dishes and it was actually quite fun. You’ll see locals with monkeys, snake charmers and many horses and carriages. We steered away from these with a view that these animals were maybe not cared for as well as they should have been. One evening we took a taxi to a restaurant in the swanky side of Marrakech. Wow, this was hair raising with the mayhem on the roads but again fun ( especially as we got there in one piece) We agreed a price beforehand but generally it’s 50d before 8pm and 75 after. We had a great night at Comptoir Darna, thoroughly recommend. They have a website and I advise you book before you travel. An adult only hotel and I would also say, being a larger lady with some anxiety about sporting swimwear, that I felt totally comfortable here. There were all shapes and sizes and it was so refreshing to not be in the minority. Also I took a lot of clothes I didn’t wear. There’s no need to feel that you have to dress up to the nines in the evening. It was very casual. All in all I would say keep in mind what you have paid for your holiday. We have stayed in hotels of all qualities and for what we paid for a weeks holiday this hotel was very good value for money.

Fantastic Break / good value for money

Just returned from a fantastic time at the Medina Gardens. The hotel is absolutely spotless, with plenty of chairs and sunbeds to sit in the sun or shade. We tended to sit around the main pool and could always get a sunbed, regardless of the time but there were always sunbeds in the gardens next to the pool as well. The bedrooms were fab - spacious with an enormous extremely comfortable bed, excellent walk in shower with separate toilet and plenty of storage. The food in the buffet restaurant was fine - always plenty of choice to satisfy my carnivore husband and my virtually vegetarian self. Food always hot and fresh with a change every day. The best place to eat on a lunchtime is the outdoor restaurant next to the pool. One reviewer complained that the service was too slow, but if you're in a rush eat at the buffet, here you get table service which we didn't find that slow and the food is excellent (recommend the lasagne) Reasonable range of drinks and cocktails. We've been other hotels with 'local' drinks and found very little which was drinkable so pleasantly surprised drinks were pretty OK, even the wine. Entertainment was fairly low key which suited us fine and ranged from a singer in the bar (pretty good - got us up dancing), violinist during dinner, pianist, movie night (no idea what was on), party & music round the pool. I can't compliment the staff enough. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. Mustapha (?) at the pool bar deserves a special mention. I read a complaint that the only way to get good service was to tip or speak French. Absolute rubbish. We didn't tip until we were leaving, as a thank you, and received great service. We arrived before check-in time but the staff checked us in, pending getting a room key, allowing us to partake of the bar and a relax in the sun whilst we waited for our room to be ready. We only went on 1 trip (we were just so relaxed and chilled was hard to move) - The Road of the Kasbah's into the Atlas Mountains. A 12 hour day but well worth it. Our only complaint - our short break of 3 nights extended to 5 nights when we booked but we wish we'd made it the full week. All in all, very good value for money and would certainly consider visiting again.

Another Excellent Stay

May 2022 | ShiresUK

We’ve just returned from another excellent stay at the Medina Gardens Hotel. This was our first visit since the impressive renovations. The gardens are as tranquil and relaxing as ever, the food varied and very good. All the staff we encountered were so polite and helpful. We were pleased to see Rachida (Guest Services Manager) is still there and welcomed us warmly. Special thanks and recognition for providing outstanding service to Aa’bid Bode Lilah (tall guy) Azzdine, Widad and Houda in the Restaurant. We could not have asked for more. Thanks to all.
