Scaligero Castle In Lake Garda Italy image

Lake Garda is home to a large amount of medieval castles, visit the 13th century moated Scaligero Castle, which is said to be one of the most important in the whole of Europe. It was built for defence purposes and its huge 31 metre high pentagonal tower dominates Malcesine's skyline.

Stroll though the picturesque, cobble-stoned alleyways to see the ancient guardhouse, which now houses the Natural History of Garda and Monte Baldo museum. Walk around the rest of the well preserved castle to see delicately painted rooms, artworks and exhibitions dedicated to the lakes and nature. Climb to the top of the tall tower for stunning views over the picturesque harbour and turquoise waters.
