After exploring the city, there’s no better place to relax than the historic Széchenyi Baths. Opened in 1913, the baths are a popular place for both locals and tourists to unwind, where you can sit back in the naturally hot springs.
With a total of 18 pools, three outdoor and 15 indoor, the Széchenyi Baths complex is huge. Do some gentle exercise in the swimming pool, relax in the hot thermal pool or let the massage jets soothe your muscles at the adventure pool.
After enjoying the water, explore the green parkland around the pools before going inside the beautiful building, which was designed by architect Gyozo Czigler. Here you’ll find the saunas and steam rooms, and you can treat yourself to a relaxing traditional massage. In the pools, which are naturally heated by two hot springs, the water temperatures reach up to 38°C, so you can visit the baths all year round.
Even in the depths of winter with snow on the ground, you’ll feel warm as your skin benefits from the natural minerals in the water. The calcium, magnesium and fluoride are said to ease all kinds of ailments including joint and muscle pain.
Széchenyi Baths are open to men and women, making it a great place to relax as a couple. You may even see older generations of locals playing chess on floating boards as they relax in the soothing waters. Unlike some Turkish baths, bathing suits are compulsory. You can hire towels when you arrive, but the queues can be very long so it’s better to take your own.
