Zante is a real gem of an island – the gently shelving sands are great for children, whilst an array of watersports can be enjoyed. Known by the Greeks as Zakynthos, there's a range of places to stay from quiet, hidden spots to more modern, bustling resorts. Whichever resort you choose to book your Zante holiday in, you’ll be amazed by Zante’s natural splendour. Charming Bohali remains a classic: set on a hillside in the heart of the island, its views over Zante Town will leave you truly inspired.

Life here revolves around the sea and a glass bottom boat trip from Skinari in the north is a must. Stop off at Navagio Beach or explore the famous Blue Caves; it’s best to go early in the morning to see the magical colour-changing waters at their best! Get some chill-out time in the afternoon, because the party really gets started after the sun goes down. Zante nightlife is famous for its banging beats, friendly atmosphere, and up-until-dawn fun that is bound to get you up on your feet and dancing!

This destination is one of Greece’s nightlife hotspots; it’s party central here all summer! Groups of mates should head for lively Laganas with its beach parties and foam parties. Here you’ll find Rescue Club, the largest club in the Ionian Islands. Fancy something a little more chilled out? Keep an eye out for the laid-back beach parties where the dress code is flip-flops, board shorts, and bikinis.

Holidays to Zante are a great opportunity to try out some of the local dishes, which are all made with super-fresh ingredients, and plenty of passion! One of the most famous local specialities is Zakynthino Stifado, a slow-cooked rabbit stew with ladotyri, regionally-produced cheese. This cheese is matured in olive oil and has a distinctive, spicy flavour that’s a perfect match for the local white wine, Verdea. If you have a sweet tooth and you won’t be able to resist madoles (caramelised almonds) and nougat and honey madolato.

Zante holidays are great for families. Laganas Beach is home to rare loggerhead turtles who come here to nest; if you’re lucky, you may spot them! Look out for the rare Mediterranean monk seal, too, and of course those cheeky wild dolphins that play offshore. Kids are well catered for on Zante holidays, with water sports, crazy golf, water parks and beautiful beaches, there’s plenty to keep all ages amused.

Holidays snaps: Break out your camera, because Zante holidays are a chance to snap more than just selfies all day! Head for Shipwreck Cove, the most photographed site in Zante, and accessible only by boat, for some fabulous landscape shots.

Greek mythology: History buffs will love a visit to Olympia on the mainland, where you can see the statue of Zeus, one of the Wonders of the Ancient World.

Party people: The Laganas Strip is where the young and lively go to party the night away at the super clubs. Expect plenty of energy, with foam parties, 2-4-1 drinks offers, and clubs that keep everyone dancing until the sun comes up.

Temperature: 17-26°C

From May to September, you can enjoy long, sunny days. Come in spring and autumn for warm weather without the crowds, or winter for mild weather and a quieter experience. The summer highs of 31 (°C) ensure its busiest in June and July. Pack plenty of sunscreen as the UV index can be very high in the summer.

Getting around

By taxi: Frequent and inexpensive, taxis are an easy way to get around the island. While there’s no bus service at the airport, the taxi ranks outside are a low-cost and convenient alternative. Official taxis should be metered, although it’s wise to agree the price before you start your journey.

By scooter: Explore the whole island in just one day by renting a scooter locally. Make sure you choose one that also gives you a free helmet, and check that it’s in good condition before you set off, as roads can be a little lumpy!

Saint day: Every year for three days (and nights) at the end of August, Saint’s Day celebrates Saint Dionysius, Zante’s patron saint. Celebrations take place everywhere, but Zante Town has the best eating, drinking and partying, with a fantastic fireworks display at the harbour marking the end of the festivities.
