A Blue Flag beach
Like other beaches in Thassos, Thassos Golden Beach has been awarded Blue Flag status, which means it's exceptionally clean. It's perfect for paddling, swimming and watersports, especially from around late June to September, when the temperature of the water peaks in the mid-20s. So pack your bikini or board shorts!
Visit Skala Potamia
Overlooking the southern part of Golden Beach is the small resort of Chrisi Akti, where you'll find a good range of tavernas, shops, flea markets and family-friendly hotels. The soft golden sand and very shallow water here makes it especially popular with families, and you can also drive further along the coastal road to the west of the beach for some brilliant panoramic views. Further north is Chrissi Ammoudia, which is very similar and offers easier access to Thassos Town/Limenas. It's close to the charming mountain village of Panagia, which is known for its attractive stone architecture and unusually large number of churches.
Wake up early to see the sunrise at Golden Beach
As Golden Beach is east-facing, you won't get a great view of the sunset here, but you will be able to see a fantastic sunrise if you're willing to wake up early one morning! If you're hiring a car, consider driving along the headland just to the north of Golden Beach Thassos, where you'll get an incredible view of the bay lighting up in the early morning light.
Getting to Golden Beach
There are regular direct buses from Thassos Town (Limenas) to Golden Beach every day of the week. In fact, there are buses that run all around the island up to eight times a day, so you can easily visit other resorts during your holiday in Golden Beach. This area is also easily accessible by car, and you'll find plenty of parking space just a short walk from the beach.
To get to Thassos itself, you can take a flight to Kavala International Airport on the Greek mainland and take a ferry from the port of Keramoti to Limenas, or from Kavala to Skala Prinos. The ferry to Limenas is the cheapest and most convenient option for holidays in the eastern part of the island, as the sea trip is just 40 minutes and the journey from Limenas to Thassos Golden Beach is just 12km or about 20 minutes by car.

A trip to Golden Beach should definitely be accompanied with a visit to Salaria Beach, which is also known as Marble Beach because of the unique white marble that makes the water look almost unnaturally bright. The best time to come to Golden Beach
If you're intent on making the most of the sun, sea and sand, then the best time to take your holiday is from around late June to early September, when you'll have more choice in terms of things to do in Thassos Golden Beach. During this time, daytime temperatures typically hover around the high 20s, while the sea temperature usually peaks in the mid-20s by around August. Thassos also enjoys almost 13 hours of sunshine in an average day in July, which is more than twice what you'd expect in the UK. Winter is often quite cold and rainy, while late spring and most of autumn are generally very mild or pleasantly warm.

If you're looking for some alternatives to the sand and the sea during your Golden Beach Thassos holiday, consider heading inland to the beautiful mountain village of Theologos, which dates back to the Middle Ages. The former capital of the island, it is noted for its attractive Byzantine architecture and traditional Thassian summer wedding ceremonies.
It's also a great place to sample some of the island's finest products, from honey and sweets to pasties and mouthwatering roasts in its tavernas. Another place that you should definitely include on your Golden Beach Thassos itinerary is to visit Limenos, the historic capital of Thassos.
Also known as Thassos Town to distinguish it from the island, it's home to the Archaeological Museum of Thassos, where you can see some impressive prehistoric and ancient artefacts ranging from Neolithic remains to Hellenistic and Roman statues.
See a concert or play in high summer
Limenas is also home to the Thassos Ancient Theatre, which has existed for well over 2,000 years and has incredible views of the port and the surrounding mountains, especially at sunset. If you're looking for some traditional local culture, head here in July or August, when you can watch a Greek Play or a concert.
