Located on the southern coast of Lanzarote, this 5 star family-friendly resort offers an extensive range of fun activities for children and a creche service for babies. Meanwhile, you can relax poolside on a Balinese bed or get a rejuvenating treatment in the spa. All adult guests receive one complimentary thermal circuit experience combining water jets, aromatic showers, saunas, hydromassage and an invigorating iced pool.
Castleland is the hotel’s kids’ zone, where the little ones are guided around by a dragon called Tagorín. The area includes a playground, a dragon-themed pool and an immersive 5D cinema experience. A wide range of sports, games and activities are on offer and there are themed days including pirates, minions and magic. Princesa Dácil Snack Bar caters specially for young guests, offering a variety of healthy snacks and special treats like chips and ice cream.
Las Coloradas is the hotel’s main restaurant, offering daily breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet style. If you’re a lover of pasta or pizza you should reserve a table at the Italian themed Portofino, open six nights a week. On Friday evenings Sansofé offers unforgettable candlelight suppers. So while the kids are dancing away at the mini disco, you can have a quiet romantic meal with your partner.
Between meals make the most of your all-inclusive benefits at the three bars, with the poolside option offering snacks, as well as a range of alcoholic and soft beverages. Castillo offers a special place to spend the last few hours of the day. Here you can enjoy a live show while sipping a cocktail. If your favourite football team is playing, you don’t need to miss out on the action thanks to the Sports Bar.
Superior rooms offer a lounge area with a sofa bed, a furnished terrace, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe, a mini fridge and bathrobes. The Merlin option is ideal if the little ones are fans of the powerful wizard, offering a colourful themed sleeping area for the children and a separate calming bedroom for the parents. A range of toys and games, including a PlayStation 4®, will keep them entertained under the supervision of their bearded character friend. For the ultimate in luxury book a Senior Suite, offering a massive 111m2 of space, including an extensive terrace area.
Nearby is the Playa de las Coloradas, formed of a mix of different coloured materials thanks to the island’s volcanic activity. Marina Rubicon offers an upmarket shopping and dining experience, as well as giving children the chance to see a variety of different boats and yachts. There are also kayaking and hiking opportunities in the area. The Timanfaya National Park is within driving distance, where camel trekking is an option.

Sparrows on food spoiled experience
First, the positives. Well maintained, spotlessly clean, friendly, hard-working staff and large bedroom with fantastic bathroom. Cleaner did a great job. The adult bathing was lovely and quiet and we were well looked-after by Tony. The negatives though far outweighed the positives. In the last two years we have stayed at the neighbouring hotel and only decided to try the Tagoro for a change. Big mistake, I’m afraid! The food, although reasonable, was nowhere near as good but the bigger issue was the restaurant hygiene. Particularly at breakfast and lunch, sparrows were flying into the restaurant and primarily eating the cheese and cakes. We looked at the internet and were horrified to find that birds carry more diseases than rodents. My wife loves cheese and salad but had neither from day two as the birds were sitting on the salad bowls to eat the cheese. We dread to think what they might have been doing in the salad!! We reported this to reception and, to their credit, they left us a bottle of Cava and some chocolates in our room as way of an apology. There was an owl decoy in the restaurant and we think they added a second one. However, why would you choose a nocturnal bird to scare a daytime bird, when a Falcon or Sparrow Hawk would be more appropriate? The other major negative for us was that there was only one bar open in the evening and it is a Sports Bar. Very noisy with tatty furniture. We like a quiet evening drink with a bit of quiet background music. The only option was to sit immediately outside the bar, on the terrace, where there were only two gas heaters. This would be fine in the summer but not January. They need to cater for people during the winter months and an inside bar is a must if they want to compete with nearby hotels. Overall, probably due to the time of year, the hotel lacked atmosphere. The main reception lacks character and needs something to enliven.
Good holiday
Currently returning from a lovely week at this hotel, we really enjoyed it. I can’t understand why people think it’s not 5 star. It is 5 star as it’s has all the necessary services and amenities and delivers them well. If you want 5 star opulent luxury then look elsewhere. However if you want 5 star family fun as advertised then this is exactly what you get in abundance! I can’t really understand why other reviewers are calling it run down and dated the hotel is irregular in its moorish design and charm, perhaps this is why. Pools great and clean Food all fresh and plentiful, restaurant a little understaffed for the volume however the waiting staff were all great and worked so hard Drinks good Cleaning- spotless Entertainment- kids entertainment team gave it their all and the kids absolutely loved it, great excitement each night for mini disco and tagorin! All staff fantastic Only minor negatives, would have been nice to have a double bed rather than a singles, reception can get a little swamped and their may be a delay, the big towel guy next to the main pool less than helpful- might have been a language barrier I’d say if you don’t have children than this isn’t the hotel for you as half the clientele and under 10, but if you do you will have a great time and be well looked after. We are looking to come back next year
Great family friendly hotel
Overall, a great family friendly hotel (we travelled with 2 young children, and stayed in a 'Merlin room'). Not 'true 5* luxury' but would still definitely recommend. Positives / highlights: - Generally extremely child friendly throughout (lots of high chairs in buffet restaurant; plastic plates for children; staff really nice to kids; great baby changing facilities etc.) - Staff were excellent, especially in the buffet restaurant - Wide range of food options in the buffet - Cleanliness of overall hotel (toilets very clean, constantly cleaning restaurant etc.) - Reasonable entertainment options - Sensible towel policy - Baby club pretty good - Free ice cream :-) - Good WiFi throughout hotel + rooms - Good room layout (Merlin) - Excellent paved footpath along the coast just outside the hotel - easy pram walk Opportunities for improvement (most are very minor): - 'Master bed' provided as two singles; relied on mattress topper to convert to double; but beds on wheels, so still came apart - Creaking sliding doors in bedroom (hard to open/close quietly when children asleep) - Hard floor in Merlin rooms - could have done with soft rug in the children's bedroom - No non-slip mat for bath (helpful in Merlin kids' rooms in particular) - Provide more high chairs with trays in buffet restaurant (but lots of high chairs overall) - Lifeguard presence inconsistent, especially in dragon pool - Add sunbeds near dragon pool in children's area - Pools slightly too cool (admittedly we were there coldest time of year) - Provide children's cutlery / bibs (as well as plastic plates)? - Drink quality ok - Sunbeds got relatively busy, even in January.
