Thomas Cook reports strong summer season with 25% year-on-year increase in bookings
September is the top month for departures, driven by customers seeking off-season deals
Couples aged 50+ are Thomas Cook’s largest customer segment for the season
Tunisia bookings up 138% year-on-year, Bulgaria 182%
Winter sun getaways are available from just £356 per person
Online travel agency Thomas Cook is celebrating a successful summer season, reporting a 25% year-on-year increase in bookings. The data also shows that September is the most popular month for departures, as holidaymakers continue to seek out off-season bargains.
Among the key trends, there’s a real shift in consumer behaviour. Surprisingly, couples over the age of 50 have emerged as the online travel agency’s largest customer segment this summer - with the period typically dominated by family getaways during the school holidays.
Also noted is a growing demand for premium holidays, with 78% of bookings made into properties 4 star or above and almost half of holidaymakers this summer (46%) opting for all-inclusive packages.
Tunisia has seen a huge increase in summer bookings, up 138% year-on-year, while Bulgaria took this even further - with a year-on-year increase of 182%.
Thomas Cook’s top selling hotels this summer were:
- ● 5 star Mitsis Selection Blue Domes, Kos, Greece
- ● 4 star Supreme Beach, Marmaris, Turkey
- ● 4 star Barcelo Lanzarote Active Resort, Lanzarote, Spain
- ● 3 star Hotel Alexander, Krakow, Poland
- ● 3 star Caribbean Village Agador, Agadir, Morocco
Alan French, Chief Holidays Officer at Thomas Cook, said:
"Our strong summer performance isn’t all about the numbers - it tells an interesting story about how British tourists are choosing to travel. People are investing in quality, convenience and luxury. It’s particularly interesting to see our customers aged 50 and over are leading this trend, as they seek out greater value from their package holidays.”
Customers seeking a last-minute sunshine getaway are in luck, with a range of package holiday deals available now:
