What’s the weather like in Madrid in March?
The Mediterranean climate begins to warm up in March, but it’s still quite cold with temperatures rarely rising above the mid-teens. If you don’t mind the cold, it’s a great time to visit the city and enjoy some sightseeing and a trip to one of the amazing museums scattered around the city.
Geographical influences
Madrid weather in March is influenced by the city’s location 667m above sea level. With its high altitude, the city is more prone to cooler weather in the winter with sporadic snow showers. March is slightly warmer than previous months, but it’s still cold and winds blowing through the city can make it feel cooler. Make sure to pack lots of warm clothes for your visit, including traditional winter clothes like hats, scarves, gloves and a waterproof jacket.
Averages
The average temperature is around 10°C in March, which can reach highs of 16°C on a warm day. For a warmer climate, visit during the final week of the month when temperatures tend to be more pleasant as spring approaches. At night, the weather can be very cold with an average low of just 4°C. The sun shines for three hours per day with an average rainfall of 30mm.
