What’s the weather like in Barbados in December?
Located just 13 degrees north of the equator where the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean meet, Barbados has a hot tropical climate with not much difference in its high temperatures through the year. December’s the start of the dry season and you’ll get lots of sun at this popular time.
Barbados’ wet season starts towards the end of May and ends in early December, so there’s a lot less rain at this time. When it does rain, it’s usually in short sharp downpours that quickly clear. Atlantic winds will keep you cool, while there’s not much difference in weather around the island as it’s relatively flat. You’ll get more rain around the mountains though, and the west Caribbean coast’s calmer than the north and east Atlantic coasts.
The average high in Bridgetown’s 29ºC in December, and you’ll stay nice and warm in the evenings, which only cool to 22ºC. The sea temperature’s 28ºC, while humidity’s high. There’s 96mm of rain over 14 days. You can expect 11 hours of daylight each day with eight hours of sunshine. UV levels will be very high so pack your sun cream. Sunset’s just after 5.30pm through most of the month.
Things to Do
As the rain reduces, the weather gets even better for you to spend long and lazy days on the beach as you soak up your exotic surroundings. If you fancy a bit of variety then take to the warm waters of the sea and explore the island’s coral reefs with some diving or snorkelling. Take a boat trip to another part of the island, play golf at one of Barbados’ great courses, or spend some time in the capital, Bridgetown.
