“Massively disappointing”

I have waited a couple of weeks since returning from our 2 week stay at the Batihan Vadi to reflect on the experience we had here. It is definitely not 5 star so people shouldn’t go there expecting it. The welcome when we arrived was lukewarm to say the least. No welcome drink and minimal pleasantries. We were on the All Inclusive Plus package and I’d emailed reception the week before to check that diet drinks would be available and was assured they would be. When I asked on check in I was told that there was only Coke Zero which I don’t like. There started the constant battle to get some diet soft drinks and tonic which to be fair happened eventually but only after a lot of effort on my part. The accommodation - we stayed in a 2 bed villa on a large plot which was generally nice and apart from a couple of bits seemed to be well maintained. Inside, the main issue was the air con control panels all flashing 24x7 with an error. I’d seen this on other reviews and other people we spoke to said they had the same so obviously not something that was being addressed. We resolved it ourselves by sticking 2 plasters over the unit. There was a smell in the 2 bathrooms which was intermittent. Cleaning was sporadic and I had to ask for them to come with clean towels on a couple of occasions and to clean the bathrooms and all the surfaces. We make our bed out of courtesy when we get up but at a 5 star hotel I still expect it to be remade properly - I think it was only done 3 days out of the 14 we stayed. Also the bedding was cheap and quite rough and pillows not great. Again not 5 star. There was a kitchenette but only a kettle and coffee machine, 4 small cups and 4 small glasses plus the minibar which was only stocked with water, full fat soft drinks and small beers. No spirits, no wine. If you wanted a drink you had to walk to the Rodero bar and carry them back in plastic cups. Also despite the All Inclusive Plus package there was no option for room service for food you’d already paid over other than the Turkish breakfast. I wouldn’t have minded paying a tray charge but there was no way I was going to pay again for the same food especially given the quality (see further down ). Also with no other equipment provided it was pointless having all the cupboards. The pool was lovely but absolutely freezing so we couldn’t use it. It was £59/ day to heat it which is extortionate. The pool at the spa was out of use for the first week of our stay. The decking and cabana were very tatty and rotting and all the cushions in the cabana needed renewing as they were ripped and dirty. The jacuzzi bath was filled with leaves and olives. We cleaned it all out but then when we filled it and switched it on loads of bits of dirt came out of the jets so we had to run it through to get rid of all that and we cleaned it all with wipes before we actually used it. The general setting / environment was nice but the old fashioned cowboy style bar and shed buildings we found very odd and again all needed refurbishing. It certainly didn’t scream 5 star. Minimal staff around as getting towards the end of the season. One waitress in the bar was lovely, the other was very sulky and mostly rude. The spa was actually really good and we had 2 lovely massages. The gym was also modern and spotless. The worst part of the holiday was definitely the food and consistency of service. If it hadn’t been for Ozzy and Matty who to be fair tried their best we would have left early. Only the O’Garden was open which we did know before we went but the very limited menu was limited even more by them keep running out of basic ingredients. No dish was ever the same if you ordered it again and it definitely wasn’t 5 star food - it looked more like a poor version of a school dinner. Minimal healthy options with hardly any vegetables or salad available and the chef seemed incapable of catering for any specific dietary requirements. Meals were mostly served with rice and chips. Any meat was overcooked and dry - the waiter advised to order a rare steak ( which was supposed to be rib eye but it wasn’t) and even that came overcooked. It was hopeless. Service was very hit and miss - sometimes it took ages to get your meal/ drinks, sometimes it was ok. They did however manage to cater for c. 300 people at a time at children’s parties on both weekends and for a large wedding so showed they could do it but just chose not to for their paying guests. I am still baffled as to what the ‘Plus ‘ was in the package - it was more like minus and very poor value for money. All in all we were extremely disappointed with the experience. Good food is a big part of our holiday and you expect a certain standard at a 5 star resort. We didn’t even feel like getting dressed up to go for dinner after a couple of nights it’s was so underwhelming. This hotel came nowhere near what we’ve previously experienced. The icing on the cake was when we left. The minibus arrived to collect us and 2 reception staff stood at the counter chatting while we struggled with all our bags through the revolving doors. Just about sums it all up really. Never again!

“Our week at the Bathian Vadi hotel, turkey”

There are some real pluses about this resort and some areas for the hotel to work on. The setting is beautiful, situated between lush green hills with lots of orange and olive trees. We decided to upgrade to a villa having spent a night in a family room, which didn’t really suit us as a couple. The resort is quite remote so we hired a car for a few days to explore the area more and to be able to eat out also. The fitness centre and spa are fabulous and my husband and I enjoyed a wonderful spa treatment with the lovely Balinese ladies, Devi and Maggie. We were not on an all inclusive package and were disappointed at the choice of restaurants and food available. Only the 0’Garden restaurant was available most evenings. The food overall was disappointing for guests trying to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Vegetables were largely non existent and most meals were served with chips. The food offering is underwhelming and the hotel should take steps to improve the range of healthy meals on offer. As a resort focused on health, wellbeing and fitness, the food and drink options need work. There is a mismatch currently and it definitely impacted my enjoyment of staying at the resort.

“A fantastic relaxing stay”

Just back from a week at the Batıhan Vadi Hotel which is situated in a valley just outside Kuşadası. The resort is very low density with a number of single and double storey villas and also apartments. We were staying in a single storey villa which was set in a round half an acre of private lands including our own pool, hot-tub and cabana along with sun loungers and tables and chairs. There are a number of restaurants on site and a bar serving food. The menus are varied and unlike many all-inclusive it’s a la carte rather than a buffet at all meal times. There are lots of things to do on-site including a well appointed gym, indoor swimming pool, spa, padel court, 18 hole mini golf course, tennis court and five-a side pitch. The staff are all helpful and friendly and keep the resort in immaculate condition. It is located around 45 mins from Izmir airport, 10 mins from Kuşadas and 20 mins from Ephesus so in a good location. The hotel has a sister site on the coast in Kuşadası and they run a shuttle bus if you fancy spending time on the beach, food and drink at this hotel is also included in the all inclusive package. Can’t recommend Batıhan Vadi enough if you want a relaxing holiday but with plenty to do if you fancy it.

“Disappointing. Wasted potential.”

Such a mixed experience. This place has the potential to be amazing but it lacks leadership and management and it’s just okay. The villa was lush (we paid the extra for the large 2 floor white ones). I’m sure the single floor were probably fine and still looked spacious outside. Ours was Beautiful inside and out, spacious, worked well for us, though I’m not sure it would work so well if you had small children. Loved the little private pergola and hot tub for use just for us whenever we wanted and outdoor shower. Everything else felt disappointing in comparison to the other 8 resorts we’ve stayed in across Turkey. We expected it to be full, busy, luxury, open…. Instead it felt like the end of season, closed, skeleton staff, quiet. In some ways it was nice being quiet and in other ways it just felt neglected. I think because it was quite pricey - we expected more. We know Turkey 5* isn’t UK 5* but it felt average if that. The same restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner with the same menu. They have a drinks menu - but I only discovered it existed when offered on my third evening meal!!! Half a mile walk for a drink! Yes they restock the mini bar - but once a day and not with wine or spirits so off you go for a round trip of a mile for those! Then to take them back to the villa I’m walking with trays of drinks across the resort. Or if you tried to get a drink at the reception bar a bit closer, you basically had to ask them to open it, wait for someone to come, and then hope they had what you wanted or wait whilst they bring that from the further bar. It was so bizarre. All inclusive except you couldn’t get things when you wanted them. Surely that’s why you pay for the convenience? So it’s easy and accessible? Lovely gym - but not open before 9am - not much use if you can’t go to the gym before the rest of the family get up. No fitness classes. Crazy golf was good for an afternoon family play. Liked the outdoor chess board too. Daily visit from the frog in an evening was quite funny. Had to ask for sun loungers for 4 on arrival. Hot tub wasn’t working when arrived and they came and fixed it. Power kept cutting out which made it quite sweaty when the air con went off (especially at night), But they did fix all things promptly). Asked the Jet2 rep for info - didn’t know answers. Said he’d find out and never got back to us. It became a bit of a joke. Visited the sister hotel - they were far friendlier, knew what they were doing, helpful, spoke English. Worth a visit for change of scenery. It’s completely opposite to Batihan Vadi - super busy and crammed in. Lovely warmer pool with a swim up ledge to sit on quite nice. Was it a nice trip? Yes. Would I go again? No. Would I recommend it? No. Was it good value for money? Absolutely not. Would I appreciate some refund or compensation from jet2 because it feels like what was sold did not deliver at all? Yes. Will I get it? Doubtful.
