For a fun-filled day at the beach, make sure you pay a visit to Praia Gale. Just a short drive or bus ride west of Albufeira, it's a long, family-friendly beach with plenty to see and do.

As you arrive at the small beach town of Gale, you'll find beautiful olive plantations, orange trees and vineyards. Coming onto the beach, choose which side you'd like to set up camp. On one side you'll see lots of caves and rock pools just waiting to be explored, while the other side offers wide sands and water sports.

After finding your spot on the fine, soft sand, hire your sun loungers and lie back in the warm Portuguese sunshine. After reading a book or making sandcastles with the kids, take a swim in the crystal clear waters to cool off. If you're feeling energetic, take a walk along the coastal path to neighbouring Praia dos Salgados or Armacao de Pera, admiring the impressive views along the way.

Alternatively, go and explore Salgados Nature Reserve, walk through the sand dunes, or simply enjoy a stroll up and down the length of the beach. When you start to feel hungry, there are a few places to eat on Praia Gale or a wider choice of restaurants a few minutes away by car.

If you're only visiting the beach for a morning, take the 15 minute drive to Zoomarine Park where you can spend the rest of the day splashing in the wave pool, racing down the slides and even swimming with dolphins.
