Thalassa Beach Resort is a 5 star hotel located adjacent to Agia Marina beach on the north western coast of Crete. The hotel is run by brother and sister George and Marianna who, along with their staff, ensure guests experience traditional, warm Greek hospitality. Maybe you’ll choose to spend your evening at the poolside party. And book yourself in for a relaxing massage the next day.
As well as the usual facilities you’d expect at a premium resort, like sun loungers on the beach, a swim-up bar and a fully equipped gym, Thalassa Beach Resort has a very rare feature - their own art gallery. This doesn’t just display a personal collection belonging to the owners, it also hosts exhibitions highlighting the work of local artists.
When Greeks say “let’s go for ouzaki” they’re inviting you for a light lunch that consists of different types of meze dishes, accompanied by Ouzo. The hotel’s Ouzaki restaurant is a dream for vegetarians as they offer over 10 meat-free dishes, including pasta, risotto, feta cheese moussaka, mushroom burger and tofu skewers. Meanwhile the omnivores can enjoy lamb, beef, chicken, salmon and seabass options.
Elaion is both the Greek word for olive oil and the name of the restaurant open for dinner. Here, a modern version of Mediterranean coastal cuisine is served using extra virgin olive oil as the main ingredient. Again vegetarians can choose from over 10 dishes. For dessert maybe sample the chocolate moelleux with Greek coffee flavoured creme anglaise sauce and rose ice-cream.
The air-conditioned standard rooms boast either a balcony or terrace, as well as satellite TV, complimentary WiFi, a safe, tea & coffee making facilities, a mini fridge, beach towels, slippers and bathrobes. A group of four friends may wish to book the two level junior suite. While a couple booking that extra special trip should consider the superior suite upgrade, complete with a private jacuzzi.
A wide range of experiences are available through the hotel, including champagne breakfasts, photoshoots on the beach and tango or cooking lessons. For a special romantic break you can book a private dinner on the beach. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s the option of a fireworks display or a violinist playing for you while you’re eating. The staff can also organise day trips to the spectacular Samariá Gorge, a World Biosphere Reserve.
