Waterbus Tour on Grand Canal

Take a trip along Venice’s most famous waterway with a tour along the Grand Canal. Travelling by waterbus, otherwise known as vaporetti, you’ll cruise on the canals taking in the city’s most iconic sights along the way.

The two most popular vaporetto routes are Line 1 and Line 2, both travelling from Tronchetto to St. Mark’s Square. For a slow 45 minute tour, choose Line 1, hopping on and off at sights including Rialto Bridge, Ca D’oro, Accademia Bridge and the Peggy Guggenheim Museum along the way. For a quicker journey, Line 2 travels the same route in just 25 minutes, but makes fewer stops.

During the summer months, the vaporetti run every ten minutes, so it’s easy to hop on and off as you explore the city. Buy your ticket at an ACTV ticket booth, choosing between a one way or return ticket, or a Tourist Travel Card that’s valid for longer periods.

The vaporetti operate just like a normal bus, making it easy to tour the city at your own pace. As you make your way along the canal, sit out on the decks enjoying the warm sunshine before getting off at the next historic sight.

For an experience with a difference, travel by vaporetti as the sun goes down, watching from the boat as the lights flicker on and the city comes to life. Get off at St. Mark’s Square to continue your evening at a fine dining restaurant or wine bar, or simply enjoy a spot of people watching.
