Cours Saleya Flower Market in Nice
Take in the most vibrant sight in all of Nice as you walk through the city’s famous market, Cours Saleya. Sitting in the heart of the Old Town, the colourful flower market’s easy to reach from the harbour, so take a walk from the seafront and spend a few hours browsing the produce at this popular daily event.
With four different markets at Cours Saleya, the Marché aux Fleurs (Flower Market) is the most well known.
Open every day except Monday, you’ll be amazed by the bright hues of exotic flowers as you walk from stall to stall. Dahlias, fuschias, geraniums and impatiens all compete for your attention as you wander through the market, watching as locals buy their daily blooms. As one of the first flower markets in the world, sellers would walk to the market from the hills with arms full of freshly cut flowers, ready to make their living.
As you walk through row upon row of stalls, try to imagine the Cours Saleya in times gone by. After soaking up the atmosphere and taking plenty of photos, spend some time browsing the fruit and vegetable stalls. Here you can buy fresh, ready to eat produce, from juicy peaches to sun dried tomatoes, along with fresh seafood, local cheeses and all kinds of spices. The fruit and vegetable sellers usually pack up at lunchtime, so it’s worth arriving as early as possible.
If you’re in the Old Town on a Monday, Cours Saleya Flower Market will be shut. Instead, you can browse second hand treasures at the antiques and flea market before exploring the quaint, narrow streets.
