Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort, Spa & Casino is a hotel that's a short stroll from the beach in Maspalomas, a resort town on the southern coast of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Gran Canaria, which lies between Tenerife and the mainland coast of north western Africa, has a variety of attractions suitable for families, couples and friends travelling together. The hotel has five outdoor pools, including an infinity pool and a kids' pool. It has a range of relaxing facilities, such as a sauna and a Turkish bath. The hotel is also home to several restaurants, including two buffet restaurants and three a la carte options. Between meals, you may like to spend some time at the hotel's seven bars, one of which has live music several evenings a week. The coastal area of Maspalomas sits at the meeting point between two of the island's major highways; one that runs around the entire coast, and another that cuts through Gran Canaria's mountainous heart and rugged natural parks to reach the northern coast. From Maspalomas, it's possible to drive around most of the island in a matter of hours, making most destinations accessible from the hotel. Local family favourites include Aqualand Maspalomas, which is home to water chutes, slides and a bubble pool, and Sioux City Park, a Wild West-themed ranch with lots of Western shows, cabaret bars and saloons.
Popular for its sandy beach and sweeping dunes, Maspalomas is also home to a variety of bars, shops, restaurants and theme parks. The hotel is 300m from Maspalomas' beach and 100m from Varadero shopping mall in the centre of the resort. Within the town of Maspalomas are a number of attractions, including Holiday World Maspalomas with its restaurants, arcades, shops and rides. There's also an Irish pub and a late-night club. For more nightlife, you might like to visit the neighbouring resort of Playa del InglÈs, which has a wider range of bars and nightclubs. The Yumbo shopping and leisure centre in Playa del Ingles is 4.5km away. For a day trip, most towns across Gran Canaria can be reached within a morning's drive along the coast or through the mountainous natural parks that make up the centre of the island.
The hotel's a la carte restaurants serve seafood, Italian cuisine and grilled foods. The two buffet restaurants are open for breakfast and dinner. You may also like to relax with a drink at one of the four pool bars, or enjoy live music in one of the other bars.
You can enjoy a gym workout or an aerobics class at the pool. Tennis courts are available. The local golf course is within walking distance.
Rooms at the hotel are bright and airy, with air conditioning, minibars and TVs with satellite channels. All have a terrace or balcony area.

Relaxing and nice hotel in the Canaries
We spent 2 weeks in Gran Canaria in 3 different areas and spent 4 nights here. We loved the pools and especially our more quiet one on the far edge of the resort that we used almost every day. The buffet was extensive but the same items each day with very little change in variety. If I stayed here longer than 4 mornings I would have got really bored with it. The cleaners were amazing - watched them work so hard keeping the resort so clean Entertainment each night was good but the way it is set up makes it hard for some to view. There is no really central performance area that all can see. Other than breakfast and dinner times, it is hard to find food other than purchasing junk food in the supermarket or going to one of the a la carte restaurants where it is pretty pricey. There needs to be an option for during the day to buy or get food that isn't expensive or needing to sit down. There is no ice for drinks in the room and there is no freezer in the fridge so no point in buying it. The Staff needed more training on resort information - so many times we would ask a question about where something is, or how to do something and they wouldn't know - one of us is Spanish so it wasn't a language barrier. This happened at least 8 times and it became frustrating. One issue we couldn't understand and the buffet manager was rude about it - we bought drinks at the lobby bar - paying top dollar and we waited awhile since the entertainment was on so then we took them to buffet. We got there and they wouldn't let us take the drinks we bought at the Lopesan lobby from 100 metres away into the restaurant to drink with our dinner. He made us put them in a cupboard! We tried to find out why he was so rude about it. We've travelled extensively around the world and have never heard of such a ridiculous policy. Carrying your cocktail from the lobby or bar to your table. He said we could stand outside the restaurant and drink it before going in. Really? This really put a bad feeling on our stay as it made no sense to us as we were not bringing our own drinks in but the drinks we purchased there. Wouldn't go back due to some of the negatives that we had but still can see a lot of good things about it and recommend on those items.
Winter holiday
We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel. It was our first time in Gran Canaria and we were not disappointed. The hotel was wonderful, all the staff are friendly and professional and they all work very hard to make sure everything is perfect. We booked a Unique room which worked out well for us. The breakfast staff are all excellent but a special thank you to Lucia. Also thank you to Zoilo who looked after us so well at the Unique pool bar. Our bedroom staff kept everyting clean, fresh and well stocked. We can't wait to return next winter. Thank you all so much!
Everything we love in a Hotel
January 2023 the Lopesan Las Meloneras Gran Canaria. Unique booking 2 hours from landing to hotel, bags picked up and taken to the room, huge hotel, quick check in and excellent staff, spotless room two wardrobes and all the amenities. Unfortunately we had the elephant clip cloppers upstairs walking around in heels, (usually during the afternoon nap) it might be better to supply slippers instead of the daily bar of chocolate. The hotel is huge so make sure you like walking a lot and take a compass and a bag of sweets so you can leave a trail to follow back to your room there's a lot of going round in squares all beautifully laid out with modern Canarian tiles which are colour coded per floor with not too many signs to tell you where you are so the odd plant pots here and there are worth making a note of. The chocolate arrives in your room daily along with George Clooney coffee and water, rooms are Immaculate, and you can tick a time for them to be cleaned which is great if you like a kip in the afternoon or other bits, don't forget to take your own little portable plastic bidet because there isn't one. Write up is for adult couples so please check others for family as there are plenty of facilities. Breakfast at the Toscana restaurant, a la carte eggs Benedict plus cold buffet, and every other type of food available all freshly cooked again great service, tip, if you like your coffee hot get a Nespresso and a hot milk from the bar. Lunch in the VIP lounge, butties included in your package, cakes if you want to expand your commendables and Cava, also available coffee, wine, fat Coca-Cola, Beer etc this is all included in your Unique pack so take a shoehorn so you can still get into your clothes by the end of the week, and long trousers if you go at this time of year for night time, possibly a woolly vest as well if you are a sitter and watcher. Dinner, The Almeda buffet with every type of food, house wine cost 18.50 Euro, buffet set out in different countries but next door to each other which makes it a bit hectic as opposed to individual island style counters which spreads the crowd, you get a few pushers in as usual at peak times, fortunately one step away from me so I kept quiet. Entertainment, Great bands, 8.30 to 9 then one hour Magic act, then the band back for an hour, favourite was Quintas fabulous Latin band, tiled dance floor in front of them so ideal for us. Another good night with Quintas and a swing stage show at the other end of the football pitch, well set out stage with a pool in front, jumpers, coats, and blankets for the audience, make a note that these posh hotels have anglified their drinks measures so magnifying glasses needed to see the Brandy as it was a small one, it’s also cheaper at the Plaza bar I think about 4.50 Euro plenty of Salsaring, finished at 11:00 o'clock. Main stage shows were good, Glitter Girls, Swing show which you move closer to the stage to see then back to dance section for bands. Pool, Unique pool heated outdoor superb, loads of sunbeds nice and quiet, finally discovered what the noise is at the fake grass end of the unique pool it's tennis players practising hitting their balls against a plastic screen on the tennis court, there is also continuous iced flavoured water by the pool, take your robe to put on when you get out of the pool at this time of year, even though it’s sunny the wind can be quite lively Spa, I wanted to try the floating pool as a new experience so walked down into Fred flintstones house deep underground under the hotel, chiselled out of rock, must have taken years to chip it out, a bit claustrophobic for me but took the plunge and quickly floated to the surface like a dead fish, tried to turnover and did a few uncontrolled somersaults, not for me, next quick sauna in the cellar a bit like going into a moon crater and up to the outdoor pool for the bubbly water things, lots of other rooms available with flavoured steam and stuff I didn't understand but this is one of the best ever if you like spas and the caves of Drak, it's massive, two spas included in the package, gown, towel, and flip flops provided. If you like top class service, good entertainment, excellent food and attentive staff, this is for you, note you have to have this package to use the heated pool, the infinity one is stunning but cold at this time of the year. Definitely a return visit required, met lots of great Europeans so a good mixed crowd of really nice people.
