If you’re looking for winter sunshine to escape the cold and rain of northern Europe, then head to Protaras in the New Year. The Protaras weather in January sees temperatures into double digits and even though it’s the second wettest month here in Cyprus, the rainfall still won’t spoil your fun winter break.Geographical influences
Protaras is just a few kilometres to the west of Ayia Napa in the far south east corner of Cyprus. The Mediterranean Sea gently laps the sandy shores here. At night time this can dip to about 7°C or 8°C. The sun will shine for around six hours but with an average rainfall of 71mm, you’ll need to pack a jacket because of the showers. The sea temperature will be around 17°C so you probably won’t be going for a swim in this winter month. The UV, heat and humidity levels are all comfortable.
