Getting around Taormina

On foot: Taormina’s Centro Storico (Old Town) is pedestrianised, meaning the best way of seeing the sights is by walking around.

By cable car: This connects the Centro Storico with Mazzarò Beach. It operates every 15 minutes from 8am and continues until 1:30am in summer, but ends at 8pm in low season. As of 2025 it’s €6 single, €10 return and €20 for a day pass.

By train: The station is 2km (downhill) from the centre, there’s a complimentary shuttle bus for train ticket holders. Rail services connect Taormina with Catania, Messina and Syracuse. There are even direct overnight journeys to Milan and Rome, which involve loading the train onto a ferry - currently the only service of this type in Europe.
