The great escape

Booked in November 21, this truly was an attempt to get away from Bad news Britain which was awash with covid crisis headlines and Boris party scandals. The Timanfaya Palace looked just the sort of place for a bit of clean air and sunshine. I can report both boxes ticked. It’s set in a quiet location, hardly any traffic and the weather was kind to us. We chose half board in order not to fall into the all inclusive pit which too often means you don’t venture out to eat or drink and therefore miss out on getting a true feel of the surrounding area. So glad we did as the hustle and bustle of the dining room at breakfast and dinner quickly began to feel mundane and we even found ourselves sitting in the same place in the dining room on a couple of occasions. ( a sign of holiday dumbing behaviour similar to poolside towel placing before breakfast). The food was alright, not great and sometimes warm rather than hot, but I wouldn’t be overly critical about it. The staff were pleasant but don’t wander in near end of sitting time or you will be eating whilst cleaning and next sitting preparation goes on around your table. Our room 023 was a pool and garden view room according to the receptionist on our late arrival on the night of Jan. 2nd. We had been delayed due to a bereavement onboard the aircraft as it flew up from Malaga to East Midlands on our departure day so it was 23:30 when we tumbled into our room. What a feeling it was the next morning to throw open the curtains to see…. a mound of volcanic soil sloping steeply upwards to the pool patio above. Standing on the plastic chair on our verandah achieved the pool view ( well if you craned your neck to the left it did). Oh well , the rest of the room was nice , clean and spacious with two queen size beds pushed together, which meant meeting for a cuddle in the middle involved a 10 minute journey ( joking). It was indeed very cool comfortable and gave us great and restful sleep for our stay. Having a below ground room does have some advantages though. We found the room incredibly quiet day and night, so don’t diss the bunker rooms but don’t expect to do much people watching either. My main gripes were the poor quality and tardy soft furniture in the main lobby/ entrance area of the hotel and in the Piano bar. It really surprises me amid these covid times that seat coverings are allowed to show dingy and dare I say dirty cushions for you to ruin your newly bought white holiday clothes. Other moans are the constant “are you all inclusive “? questioning by over zealous bar staff. Particularly in the piano bar which we avoided after a couple of nights. Pool areas were good with plenty of room and sun loungers so no need to get up at 4 am to secure one. On a more positive note, the hotel is in a great spot overlooking the ocean and with great views over to Fuertaventura and it’s mountains. Taxi into playa Blanca commercial centre was about 4€ and we made good use of them to sample restaurants and bars further afield. Love Lanzarote and will be back in the summer but will give this particular hotel a miss until it’s had a facelift. Sorry Timanfaya Palace, but you just fell short for anything higher than a 3 out of 5 but I know you’ll get better.

This is our 1st time here and we are already talking about coming back to this fabulous adults only hotel. It is by far the best Spanish all inclusive we have ever stayed at. The staff are so friendly and go out of their way to help you. The food and branded drinks are simply the best. There's nothing more to say other than thank you so much. We can't wait to return.

Well what can I say. We arrive last Sunday for a 7 night stay, arrived at our hotel and checked in, my fault I didn't book seaview so upgraded with no problem. room 503 looking over the pool, mountain, sea. we are only 1 flight up from reception and close to the lifts. Serive os amazing, staff in all area can't be more helpful. nothing is a problem. Everywhere is clean. We are enjoying it so much we have extended our stay by 4 nights. 1 little niggle, my kettle in the room won't reach the plug so have to sit it on the floor, I do like my yorkshire tea in the mornings!! Thannk you to all your staff in all areas. We will be coming back when we can..
