Puerto Rico - currency

The currency in Puerto Rico is the euro.

Puerto Rico’s location in the Canary Islands puts it in the Eurozone, as it’s part of Spain. Get some euros in your pocket with Thomas Cook Travel Money’s great value exchange rates, and you won’t have to find anywhere to get cash when you arrive.

Don’t worry though, there are plenty of ATMs available – just make sure your account is suitable for use overseas without landing you with extra fees. Currency cards are an excellent alternative to taking your usual plastic.

Top tip: Smaller shops, markets and bars in Puerto Rico (and around the rest of Gran Canaria) may prefer cash to cards, so don’t rely on being able to tap the plastic for that essential mid-morning coffee. Plus it’s always worth carrying a small amount of change for tips anyway.
