We had a lovely holiday at the grand yazici mares hotel, the staff were friendly and mostly helpful although when we had a couple of power cuts at night not one member of staff came round to assure us that everything was fine and they were doing there best to sort the problem. The food was average mainly the same every day just in different sauces. There was not one baby changing facilities anywhere on the hotel grounds. The location was lovely and views were great.

Very disappointing experience
Did not enjoy this at all. Room was very small, could not sit on balcony and enjoy sun, Thought we had booked a five star but this struggled to be a three star. Had to fight with flies and wasps to eat in resturaunt, especially in the Chamlik resturaunt (which we had to book) where waiters saw us struggling with wasps but did nothing to help. We walked out without finishing meal. Staff on reception were not helpful at all, very impersonal.
Would not recommend or go back.

Half term getaway
A week was just long enough the facilities were very good, the entertainment was a little poor but this was due to the Hotel closing for the winter the next week so most of the entertainment staff had gone home or winding down.
Food, drink and staff were all great, Hotel accommodation is far superior to the apartments but still adequate for a family.
20-30 minute walk to Marmaris, so plan to stay on the resort.
Would I go again? YES

fab fab fab
we went as a party of 10, 2 of our friends went 4 days before us as they got married. it was 1hr 45mins to the hotel with a 15 min stop. Rooms was spotlessly clean an made up everyday, beds were very comfortable as i suffer with my back. I didnt go to breakfast but my husband did but said it wasnt a cooked breakfast so the men went out fot breakfast which for a full english was only £1.50. pool area was very clean with slides which we all had fun on, and pool games which whatever your age was a laugh. There was a snackbar open till 4.30 which we found plentlyfull also the main resturant was open so if you wanted a sit down meal you could.
Evening meal was nice, plenty of different foods, and deserts to die for.
The entertainment was ok, but we went out in the evenings for a walk so didnt get back till late, but they involved the children as well.
We had a late flight but managed to keep our room on till 10pm fo about £45 which was well worth it.
I loved this hotel an hope to return next year :)

Family Summer holiday in Turkey
After a bad start where the hotel had lost our booking and we spent two nights in two hotel rooms rather than the booked family villa we soon found settled in. The food was fresh and excellent, would have been nice to have the breakfast toasties or omelettes at lunch but otherwise lots of choice, always hot and waiters very helpful. Plenty of sun beds and a lot of shade provided round the pool. Warnings, make sure if you book a villa that you ask for one that has been renovated the older ones aren't nice at all. The gym was OK for a hotel gym, half the equipment didn't work but there was plenty of weights. The evening entertainment was a disappointment though, very low quality and it was a reasonable walk into town if you wanted better entertainment. One thing to watch for teenagers is the "disco", this is a 10L ride in a bus to a club where one drink is 25L and is miles from anywhere. Not a good or safe thing if you have girls alone. Lovely walk into town, brilliant weather, fantastic views and nice people. TV had a couple of English channels but most in German. Clientèle mostly Russian with a smaller number of English. We went on jeeo safari with boat ride which was excellent, also did river cruise which was good apart from the enforced stop at the carpet factory and at another "comfort break" on the way back. You do need to watch this tactic, everything is set up to make money - photos on every corner, stops at special shops etc where they try to sell you drinks and food as well as gifts. Watch the market, lots of hard sell, and always assume the men earn all the money. Shops great for fake goods and can bargain, offer half and expect to meet half way. All in all a fantastic holiday, was worried about getting ill but we were all fine, would certainly go back to Turkey.

Gran Yaziki Mares .. Disgustingly bad accom
I have travelled to Turkey on many occasions, What can I say? Brochure/internet descriptions were beautiful, and to be fair, the pool, reception and grounds were. THEN.. we arrived at our accommodation. 5*? I genuinely wouldn't rate it at any more than 1* (and i have been in travel since the days of Intasun and Yugotours) My family and I were horrified to find that our 5* all inclusive 2 bed bungalow, was, in fact, a dilapidated, filthy, crumbling and so unbearably smelly prefab dive.
This is a beautiful complex and i do believe that SOME accommodation has had a lick of paint, ours definitely hadn't . As we'd booked just a week, we decided to get on with our holiday and not spend any time at the accommodation and certainly not let ourchildren know how upset we were as they deserved a fun holiday. PLEASE THOMAS COOK, TAKE A LOOK AT THE ACTUAL ACCOMMODATION YOUR GUESTS HAVE TO STAY IN. I am certain that if you did realise, that you would never, ever include this accommodation in your brochure. Beware everyone considering this property - oyur money is precious, dont waste it.

Fantastic hotel but avoid the bungalows!
Having read the reviews before our holiday there was a common theme - mainly good reviews but any that were not good related to the bungalows.
Sadly, i have to agree - they are shabby, definitely not 5 star, To make matters worse both our rooms were dirty on arrival. One other room was completely flooded in the bathroom on arrival and a few days after arriving the flush mechanism came off the wall (after the maid had been in, and remained like that for the rest of the holiday despite us reporting it!). This meant the girls had to manually push the mechanism that was exposed to flush the toilet.
The maid service was very poor - even after being asked to give a thorough clean to both rooms the floor remained covered in grime. Both rooms were left with no toilet paper on occasions, the girls room was only given 1 towel between them on quite a few days, despite complaining to reception about this.
For all the above we did complain to our rep and got a free late check out at our request.
Pool towel hire - £10 per towel and only allowed to change it 2 x per week - we complained to our rep who arranged via guest relations that we could have daily pool towels.
So, having pointed out the bad things, we still had a fantastic holiday - after all , we did not spend much time in our rooms. The pool was lovely and kept very clean. If you want to sunbathe at the pier you need to get up early to book a good bed and note that the majority of these beds get the shade quite early in the afternoon - however you can swim out to one of 3 pontoons and sunbathe there.
The entertainment team were friendly and kept everyone involved in the various activities - a great way to get to know others. The food was superb - great quality and plenty of choice, despite other moaning about it - don't believe them! The Sultan bar was a good atmosphere in the evenings.
It is a 30m walk to Icmeler along the promenade and a 10m walk to the edge of Marmaris. Both make a nice change and there are many nice bars with entertainment.
We did the boat trip booked by the guy at the entrance to the hotel -fantastic value at £10 each and absolutely no concerns in recommending them - there were plenty beds on deck for everyone, lunch was lovely and drinks/icecream were extra but not too expensive. The guide was a lovely guy and we had a fab day.
Having spoken to a few people who had rooms in the main hotel - they are much nicer, more modern and the maid service seemed superior. We were also made to believe form our rep that the bungalows are due to be refurbished in the near future.
This is our 3rd time in Turkey and 2nd time to Icmeler - last yr at the Grand Yacizi Marmaris Palace. We love the area and will be back - but not to the bungalows!

Mares Hotel in Turkey
My girlfriend & I recently spent a week at the Mares hotel in Marmaris. We had a fantastic time & would have no hesitation returning. The hotel was wonderful with excellent facilities, helpful staff, numerous bars & the food was very varied & tasty. It was a good mix of Turkish food & more international options. Our room was clean & a good size with air con, a fridge, safe & great storage for clothes. The hotel location is great, right on the sea, surrounded by pine trees & mountains. All in all a really fun holiday.
