Planning your visit
Marmaris is a lively resort and there is always something going on day or night. Home to the largest yachting marina in Turkey, it has the feel of a sophisticated Western resort. But venture into the narrow streets of the Old Quarter and you will find a more traditional Turkish atmosphere.
Don't miss the weekly Thursday market, where you can buy absolutely everything from jewellery and leather bags to chickens and ducks! Alternatively, the colourful bazaar offers an even greater range of goods and is a great place to shop for clothes.
For a wonderful view of the harbour, wander along the crenellated battlements of the town's Ottoman Castle built in 1522 by Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent. Or you can stroll along the traffic-free promenade all the way from the marina to Icmeler.
No holiday to Marmaris is complete without a visit to the Turkish bath at Armutalan, or a cruise around the bay to take in the stunning scenery and top up your tan.
