Overview

A glorious hideaway by day that buzzes with excitement by night, bustling and cosmopolitan Bodrum is an upmarket resort that attracts a sophisticated crowd. A mass of white, sugar-cube houses cascade down the hillside to the waters edge, where the harbour and marina bristle with elegant yachts and wooden gulets.

Beautifully located in the centre of the scenic Bodrum peninsula, this cosmopolitan resort boasts a spectacular harbour dominated by a 15th century castle and a fantastic range of shops, restaurants and nightlife.

Bodrum in Turkish means 'subterranean vault', which is believed to be a reference to the tomb built around 355 BC for King Mausolus (hence the term 'mausoleum'). It stood 55 m tall, and was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, but it was destroyed many years ago by an earthquake. All that remains today are the foundations and a few carved fragments.
