They say Side has the best fish restaurants in Turkey. We haven't tried them all, but we're happy to report they are pretty special here, on the Mediterranean coast of this fascinating country. Side rests on a promontory, jutting out into the blue waters of of the Mediterranean, and chock full of ancient history. For many, this is Side's attraction - its archeological wonders. But for those seeking package holidays to Side, don't be too alarmed. This is a modern resort which manages to retain its authentic charms ( a delightful fishing harbour, a labyrinth of old town streets and Roman temples) within a network of well-run, family-friendly attractions. It's a good value place and cheap holidays to Side aren't hard to find. Wander the streets of the old town and you'll walk past a seemingly never-ending roll-call of wonders, from Hellenistic temples to ampitheatres, pretty villas to ancient city gates. In summer, traffic is calmed and the walking gets even more enjoyable. This jumble of old and new, of busy streets and lazy beaches, gives Side its undoubted charm. Accommodation, spread out around the peninsula's coast, offers more than enough choice so, even if you're after a last minute holiday to Side, chances are you'll be in luck. And if you are, don't forget those fish restaurants!
