RUBBISH, RUBBISH, RUBBISH!
Modern, clean hotel rooms... Just about all I can say good about this hotel.
To start with, the entertainment was poor, especially as, being English, non of it was aimed at me and my partner,so we could not understand it or get involved. When we asked a member of hotel staff (rep not currently there) for local entertainment we got no help or recommendations, so we ended up spending many nights in our room entertaining ourselves (with a board game we bought locally).
The food was also very poor. Throughout our whole stay (7 nights), we lived on hard pastries, cold beans, and chips. During the middle of our stay we also noticed spaghetti bolognese, however this was also luke warm and was the consistency of water. After this we had an upset stomach for the rest of the night. We also spent a lot of money on food which we hadn't accounted for, meaning by the end of our stay we were running low on what was a very reasonable budget.
During the days we spent most of our time outside the hotel, going to the local beach, and booking trips. The distance from the hotel to the beach is not bad (30 minute walk), and there is a card which offers a free bus ride there and back which we didn't use as the bus wasn't frequent enough. The one day we stayed in the hotel we paid 20€ for a VIP section, offering luxury beds to sunbathe on, a fruit salad and a cheap champaign which we wouldn't have got if we didn't help ourselves. We weren't expecting this as on the advertisement it suggested it got served to you. During the day we got bored mid-afternoon as the activities carried out through the day were either aimed at young children, or got cancelled due to over runs.
On our second night staying at the hotel we were woken up by another family walking in to our room, thinking it was their room as the hotel had messed up our rooms with someone else's, and had no records of us being in our room.. Meaning we had to give them our details all over again, which cut into our morning and made us miss breakfast. Although we know these things can happen, we never got any sort of apology for this.
A day or two after this happened our key stopped working, and when we went to sort it out at reception they didn't know anyone was staying in our rooms, meaning we had to give them our passport details and reference number again!!!
We paid 25€ for wifi for the week, so we could keep in contact with our families through iMessage and FaceTime. This started out good, however every day at some point you have to log in to their wifi again. It also was very slow and we spent most of our time trying to reconnect as it would disconnect regularly. We found standing on the balcony was the strongest connection point, and the only place to send a message or FaceTime our family for over a minute without it cutting out, which made it very hard to enjoy talking to our loved ones.
Unfortunately, the hotel put a downer on what otherwise was a fantastic holiday.

A perfect holiday
From start to finish we both had a fantastic time here. The room was great, cleanliness was first class. Food was so varied and there was something for everyone at each meal. It was great trying new food and local dishes esp the fish. All cooked fresh in front of you.. The grounds were great for a wander, paraqueets flying around. Some cats too which are friendly and well fed. There are 2 pools, one for noisy family's/kids and the entertainment team and another quieter one which was for us middle aged ladies much quieter and more relaxed.all the bars near the pools are v clean and staff v polite and helpful. The all inclusive areas for food and drink are an awesome idea, you just help yourself.
Great location, great hotel. Only fault is that beds were a little soft but I'm used to a hard bed. Will def go again tho despite this. And wifi is not free there .but it was nice to have a break from it !

Lovely hotel, great surroundings.
Hotel very clean, staff although quiet were very polite. Food very good although dining room was sometimes chaotic. We were all inclusive so the self service bars were great. However guests on half board were also helping themselves to drinks which wasn't monitored by bar staff. Quite a lot of children running around in evenings parents nowhere in sight! No free wi fi this had to be paid for.

Stayed during 21-28 March on an inclusive break and had an excellent holiday. Accommodation very comfortable and clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Pools very clean as staff washed sun beds and areas every day. Very efficient lifeguards on duty. Pool side bars well stocked with food and drinks. Food in the restuarant was varied, hot or cold as need be, well presented and to all tastes. Will be returning.

End of winter break in Gran Canaria
We had a fine holiday in Barceló Margaritas but the hotel is more a 3+ star one than a 4.
The air conditioning was not on although the room got very hot at the end of the day and the only way to keep it cool was to open the window which meant it was noisy overnight.
The food was ok but became less and less varied as the hotel got busier.
Our room was always cleaned in the afternoon and one day got completely forgotten.
The Wi-fi was quite expensive to acquire and did not work all the time.

Great Deal Family Holiday at Barcelo Margaritas
Fantastic hotel & staff, nothing too much trouble. Views from balcony over pool and sea, brilliant. Room very modern (only improvement, could do with a coffee/tea maker). Restaurant very spacious with outside seating and very clean. Plenty of choice at all meal times. Entertainment team friendly and very good day and nigh time. The only downside is there are a lot of steps (decking sunbathing area & tennis courts/volley ball courts & 2nd pool), could be a problem if you have mobility problems. If you dont mind sitting around the main/childrens pool with bar and entertainment, then there are plenty of sunbeds. Overall I woul definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to friends and family. Brilliant holiday, weather could've been a bit better (very humid with storms, only 4/7 days of hot sun).

Great for single travellers, who like their food.
I had a lovely time at the Barcelo Margaritas in Gran Canaria for yet another year. The staff were mainly very helpful, the location was really great for what i wanted, near the bus route to maspalonas, and with plenty of local amenities close at hand. The food is exceptional, and the choice of drinks on all-inclusive was really good, I can't wait to go back to this hotel next year.
