Planning your visit
Crete is an exciting sunshine destination where you will enjoy a warm welcome on the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands. The island is full of myth and legend so follow in the footsteps of Theses and visit the ancient city of Knossos where, according to legend, the young man from Athens killed the Minotaur in the maze-like labyrinth. There is also no shortage of modern-day distractions with its lively selection of holiday resorts, superb beaches and traditional entertainment to enjoy. Aghios Nikolaos Formerly a fishing village, the resort of Aghios Nikolaos has become one of the more popular resorts on the island of Crete. This busy town boasts a range of tourist amenities, though has retained a great deal of local charm, which appeals its visitors. The pretty harbour and Town Square provide plenty of opportunities for al fresco dining in a picturesque setting, many of the restaurants look over the waters' edge. Restaurants and tavernas provide a variety of dining choices, while the bars and discos offer a good choice of evening entertainment. Here the hotels tends to have small course sandy beaches and coves. Please note this resort is unsuitable for those with walking difficulties. Elounda Situated just 12km north of Aghios Nikolaos, Elounda is one of Crete's hidden gems. Nestled in its own secluded bay area to the edge of the beautiful, clear turquoise waters of this part of the Mediterranean. The small town has a typical Cretan atmosphere with its own bouzouki club and some local tavernas. It also has most of the amenities one would expect from a beach resort; the course sandy beach offers water sports, and there are shops, restaurants and local style bars providing the opportunity to enjoy the evenings in this beautiful setting. From Elounda there is also the possibility of taking a short excursion by boat to the neighbouring Fortress island of Spinalonga. Hersonissos A busy and cosmopolitan resort, which is a particular favourite with young people and couples. With one promenade dotted with shops, open-air restaurants, bars, discos and other attractions along the length of the resort, ideal for lively nights and fun-filled days, and beautiful, soft sand and shingle beaches or rocky coves, for daytime relaxation, the resort offers something for everyone. There is also a pretty harbour area with traditional tavernas. The hotels enjoy a tranquil location, running alongside the waters' edge at the quieter end of town, and are just over 5 minutes walk from the resort centre. The new 18-hole Championship standard golf course is just 6.5 kms away from Hersonissos. Sissi A charming village nestled in the bay at Sissi, along this beautiful part of Crete's northern coastline. Much of the original character of Sissi has remained, and it is ideal for those wishing to stay in a picturesque part of the island in an authentic setting. The small harbour area is a pleasant place to relax in the long sunny afternoons into the evening. For daytime excursions, the archaeological site, with its remainders of the Palace of Malia, and the busy resort town of Malia is located at approximately 8km from the hotel. Rethymnon Guarded by a Venetian fortress, the coastal city of Rethymnon is well worth a visit. Its fascinating Old Quarter with a museum, traditional and modern shops, and even a Turkish church, is a must, as is a climb up to the fortress for the spectacular views over the city. The traditional harbour is one of the best places to enjoy a traditional Cretan meal or some of the fresh fish on offer in the restaurants by the waters' edge, or simply to savour a drink whilst watching the world go by.The hotels tend to be located away from the city itself, and are dotted along the coastline in the direction of Heralding.
