Great hotel shame about the clientele.
We are a couple of ‘Old Farts’ and stayed All Inclusive for 14 nights from 6th September 2019. That first weekend was horrendous. The majority of guests were Spanish families who along with hotel staff let their children run amok in the reception area. The noise and irritation of kids running about unchecked was infuriating especially when parents couldn’t be found and reception staff declined to intervene. Luckily on Sunday the Pied Piper called and carried the majority of them off. Many of the families that remained were reluctant to use waste bins and would leave plastic glasses and crisp packets on tables which inevitably ended up on the floor making a right mess. Location; nothing of real interest close to hand and certainly not a scenic resort. The promenade and boardwalks were good for walking off excess food. Hotel; Staff all were brilliant. Public Areas; Clean and smart looking except for the bar which had more of a café feel to it. Tables in the reception area could have been wiped more frequently. The main pool was very good (after the kids left) and was a real heat and sun trap. The pool at the side of the hotel was basic, always quieter and because of the breeze a good 5 degrees cooler which we liked. Restaurant; Meal times took a lot of getting used to, breakfast served from 08.00 wasn’t a problem but lunch from 13.30 and dinner from 20.00 meant that afternoons and evenings were half gone by the time we finished eating. It was always clean and tidy but the food was hit and miss. There was always plenty of choice but it wasn’t served or kept hot. Rooms; Sound proofing, hot water, private balcony, the huge Queen sized bed, air conditioning, cleaning and linen changing were excellent. Lack of any English TV channels poor WiFi reception, large step down to the balcony, and the shower over the slippery bath without grab rails were disappointing for us elderly folk.
HOTEL 4 STAR ?????????? NO
( 1ST The positives) A well presented clean hotel, in a quiet residential location. . Handful cafes/restaurants,supermarket,pharmacy. . A small quiet pool away from the large one. . Hard working chamber maids. Now the not so positives: We were 2 couples hoping to enjoy a week in the sun. . ( we have stayed at hotels catering for families before, and have had a great time) unfortunately everything here was geared for the Spanish, all entertainment & Animation, day & night, very difficult for us to understand what was going on, so we sat in the reception area with our drinks... unfortunately there were unruly loud Spanish children running around especially in the evening, while their parents watched the entertainment, extremely noisy, nothing was done to control them: One was even riding around on a electric scooter. Even the display of stones & urn were played with ...being thrown around!!!!! DINING ROOM The layout of the food in the dining room was very dis-organised ( especially at breakfast) At the entrance was the fridge with the milk & yogurts in, and a micro-wave, half way down the dining room was the bowls, and 3/4 way down was the cereals, ? why were they not in the same area ?also if you made a cup of tea you would then have to go back up to the entrance to get the milk, ( after the 2nd day we had it off to a fine art... ha ha) We felt the hot food was never very hot accept the food you got from the griddle area, the rest on hot plates/ containers ( not switched on 1 night) were poor. Minimal choices & repetitive. Some staff stood around talking among themselves. We enjoyed taken the local bus into Almeria, looked around the fortress & cathedral. Not a 4 star....................................
My son loved this holiday...
First things is first if your expecting alot of shops, Nightlife, restaurants this probably isn't the destination for you but of you want a more relaxed area then this is defo the place for you... The Hotel was very busy for the first few days we were there which we expected as it was the first weekend of the school holidays and the Spanish seem to really like this hotel... For the moment if you don't speak some Spanish you will probably not find it as easy as we did bit there are a few of the staff in the hotel who do speak English and this will improve year on year as you have to remember this hotel has only just opened for English tourists.. Rooms... Our room was very nice and very clean which was great. We payed the extra to get the VIP rooms which have a little garden outside and your own private loungers. There was a large flat screen TV bit no TV stations for brot viewing but we don't watch much TV so this wasn't an issue... We had 2 doubles beds in the room which was great for me my wife and 7 year old son. The only issue I really had was someone in another room was smoking so i had to turn the air con off otherwise the room filled with cigarette smoke so that meant I had to turn off for 5 days untill they checked out. Apart from that niggle all was great...we also had a fridge. Pools... The main pool was great for the kids and adults and pretty deep... Imo deeper than the 1.60 stated as im 6ft 3 and only my head was showing if I was on my top toes... The pools are cleaned very well and chemical.balance of the water seemed on point... There is a smaller pool round the back of the hotel which wasn't mentioned too. During the siesta period Life guards drop to 1 on the big pool rather than 3 and imo there should always be a life guard at the top of the main slide as some of the Spanish kids were causing problems. Food.... I hate all the English catered hotels as the food is normally horrible but because this was catered for Spanish the food was great and just one of the reasons we wanted to go to this hotel, apart from practicing more Spanish, we had a great selection for fish dishes and meet dishes at each set time...... Be advised though meal times are catered more for Spanish for lunch is from 13.30 and dinner is 20.00.. So if you like nice Spanish food then you will enjoy this selection of food... If you want all the English crap then you will hate it.. There is also a pool bar at each of the pools where you can get snacks and drinks and the normal indoor bar catering the same things.. Summary.... All in all we lived our visit to this hotel a d it will only get better for the Brits as more travel to it... If you want some advice it might be a good idea to brush up on your Spanish as this will be a good help.... Also the castle in Almeria is well work a visit and cost us 23 euro each way in a taxi but it was well worth it.. The Spanish kids didn't seem to like the English kids also and we had a few issues with them splashing and pulling my son's hair which didn't go down too well as he is autistic.. but we just made our presence felt and they realised they were being watched.. There are a few restaurants in el toyo but they normally don't open properly untill around 9pm... To find them just Dona search on Google maps and it will show you where all the things are... Also if you get dropped off outside the hotel by the coach... Which you will... The hotel reception is round the back of the hotel.
