Another great stay at the Rubicon Palace, from being greeted at the premiere reception to the end of our 7 day stay ,everything was enjoyable . The staff and food in the Vulcan restaurant could not be faulted. The premiere lounge now staying open until 11pm helps make it so relaxing after a lovely dinner. Looking to book our return. Thankyou again Rubicon Palace
Lovely holiday overall
General After reading some very negative reviews, I was quite concerned about our holiday at this resort before arriving. I was however pleasantly surprised. My husband, 18 month old daughter and I had a 7 night stay at the resort. We were all inclusive but we didn’t opt for privilege as knew this wouldn’t be of benefit with our daughter. Weather was very good, warm with some cooler periods. Pros Room was great, 8021 (junior suite). Good location - near to restaurants and pools. Don’t hear much noise (however we do put on white noise when our daughter sleeps). There was lots of space despite the cot and was relatively clean. Toiletries - satisfactory. Usual daily clean and turn down service. The Lindt chocolates every night at turn down were a great touch. Mini disco - our daughter loved it! She had a great time there every night and was probably the highlight of our whole stay. Themes varied and the staff really tried to engage the children. Lots of hype about seeing the mascot Daisy come out and dance which a lot of children loved. Bistro cafe - a bit of a hidden gem, came here for lunch as the sandwiches were nice and fresh and a few veggie options Staff in general friendly. Animation team were good. Our daughter liked seeing Daisy every day. If we did ask for anything it was provided fairly promptly. Kids pools were good for small children. Nice playgrounds and sandpit which our daughter enjoyed. We really enjoyed the fire show which was on one night and our daughter liked it too. Live performances throughout the day with dance and live music were lovely. Especially liked the guitarist playing during one night, he is very talented. Cons Water not given in room every day - have a strange system of having to buy a bottle and refill it yourself around the resort. However, when I called reception one night needing water after explaining they don’t provide it in the rooms they did still send some water up which we were thankful for. Vegetarian food is seriously lacking, some days worse than others where the only vegetarian options were sides. Labelling of food was very poor, a simple ‘v’ would have helped to indicate whether a dish was vegetarian. Vegans would struggle a lot. Salad bar was good, lots of different salads and dressings. Kids club - major negative for us was that there were no ‘stay and play’ activities. You only had the option of leaving your child there. We came on holiday with our child to spend time with her so leaving her in a kids club wasn’t an option for us (understandably this is a personal choice). So felt like a real shame that there were so many activities going on and some lovely facilities but our daughter couldn’t get involved. Everything felt like it was late (meal times etc) however this again is a personal thing as our daughter has an earlier routine. Found it slightly difficult to find a variety of food outside the buffet times. Overall, a lovely hotel and we have a great holiday as a family of 3. We spoke to a few other families who also enjoyed their stay here.
Really lovely hotel
We have just got back from a week at Rubicon Palace. I am 6 months pregnant so picked this resort as we had stayed in a H10 in the Dominican last year so hoped it would be of similar quality, we are really happy with the choice. When you arrive the lobby area is beautiful and staff are giving out bubbly, and we’re on hand ready to take our luggage to the room (we arrived 1pm) we were in room 4094 which overlooked the quieter pool and had a standard room. We were really happy with the room, the air con was not cold cold but it didn’t effect us all week and we didn’t need to mention it. The room was cleaned every day, even one day my partner had a work meeting (outrageous I know ) so we asked for the room not to be cleaned so he wasn’t disturbed, after his meeting finished at 2 he came to the pool and when we went back at 5 they had cleaned the room for us. The bed was not the comfiest bed, but I don’t know how much I can put down to the bed or the fact I can’t sleep comfortably anywhere at the moment Keep your keycard away from your phone, we attempted to be really on it but twice we got locked out when our phone was only with the key a couple of minutes max, it was really sensitive which was annoying. I had read on here about difficulties getting restaurants, so as soon as we arrived I booked the dinner show, the Italian and the steakhouse and got good times for all three and there was still lots of spaces. Towards the end of the week we did go to see if we could add another visit to the Italian but overhead the reservation team explaining to someone they were fully booked so definitely recommend booking them as soon as you arrive. Booked everything on the app which was really easy. Italian- loved it, although got massive food envy when I saw my partners pizza come out because it looked amazing! We were in an out in 45 mins service was brilliant. Steakhouse- this was my partners fav, he really enjoyed his steak. Again we experienced good service in here. Dinner show- we really enjoyed this, it was something different and I would imagine quite the effort to put on and deliver, especially for the waiting staff. We liked the menu and the show was good, the female singer was amazing and the lad from the entertainment team (tap dancer) was brilliant. He also did a lot of the day activities like aqua gym and is a credit to the team that work there. The buffet was sometimes busy but we always got sat down, we were clearly really lucky as we were never sat down more than 5 minutes and not offered a drink. There was a wide selection available at the buffet, and I think my partner had steak every day it’s not blow your mind food at the buffet but we had no issues with it. We took our own water bottles and never had issues with getting water, we were just organised and made sure we filled it up before going back to the room etc. There is no pool service but I think it would be hard to facilitate as the area they would need to cover is so vast, you’d be waiting forever or they would need loads of staff. I didn’t mind walking to the bar, as I could grab a snack pretty much every time I was there. The snack bar had burgers, chicken, pizza, chips, nuggets etc as well as sandwiches, baguettes, nachos, salad, fruit.. lots of options and always food there.. (Make sure to see the turtles outside the buffet, we would spend ages here watching them and the fish) We got the bus to the marina on the Wednesday for market day. The bus is so easy and it is bus number 30, which comes every half an hour from outside the front. The little Lanzarote map you are given when you check in has the route on it and it was really really easy to follow. It was €1.40 each way. I had heard taxis are hit and miss to get and you can be waiting ages.. which seeing how busy the market was I don’t even know how we could have got a taxi back! We also took a walk along the sea wall which was nice, and saw there was some spots you could go into the sea closeby (mind out for crabs though as there was a few!) Weather was 22-24 most of the week. The wind can be a lot at times and can make it a bit chilly, especially when coming out of the pool. We spent most of our time by the heated pool as I couldn’t do any excursions or anything. The pools are really well kept and clean. The water is SALT water, which is definitely worth knowing before diving in the big pool and the quieter pool are not heated and we’re freezing, I didn’t go in these ones, but over the summer they are apparently full when the temperature is a bit warmer. The heated was around 30 degrees and was fine to have a swim in. The activities around the pool were really well organised, they had trampolines and spinning bikes and all sorts! Never had any issues getting a sun bed. The large pool looks beautiful as does the grounds of this hotel. We were actually really impressed with the entertainment, the singers they had in were decent. We went to the piano bar every night which was lovely. The cocktails were really nice that my partner tried and the mocktails I had were good. One night the service in there was awful and we waited over an hour to even be looked at, but this is clearly down to the lack of staff at the time. We had no problems any other night. The entertainment in there really was good, they had a beautiful soul singer one night, and piano, sax player on others. This was probably our favourite place to sit. It would really be good if they could introduce some sort of app ordering in there.. but don’t know the logistics of this as not everyone was all inclusive. I found the hotel to be really clean, and was always seeing staff cleaning up and taking care of the site. I went to the toilet once near the snack bar and someone had hulked the toilet seat off and when I went back an hour later it was repaired. I was really impressed with how clean the toilets etc were as I didn’t often dread going in them as apparently us adults forget how to use a toilet properly when we are out. I saw one cockroach while I was there, but cockroaches live there, like spiders in a house so it caused me no concern as I was happy everywhere was clean. I get a bit confused when people moan about seeing bugs in a country where they live, you are going to get them. I know the spa is closed but I wouldn’t have used it anyway so didn’t bother us, my partner used the gym quite a bit and said it was sufficient for what he needed. Found the wifi very hit and miss, but my partner had no issues so may have just been me. There’s some cats on the resort, who appear very well looked after (I didn’t feel sorry for any of them they looked like they were living the dream) I never saw them where I don’t think they would have been welcome though, and loved that they had little houses and food stations. I’ve read lots of reviews about this hotel, some I can see how the bad happens but some I do think are unfair. I know we were very lucky with our food and service most of the week and I can only go off the service we received. Overall we really enjoyed our “babymoon” and this hotel, and would definitely recommend a visit there.
