There’s not even enough room for my review

Way to expensive! We are frequent travelers to Amsterdam so I know what I am talking about when I say that this is the most expensive hotel we have stayed at. If the standard of this hotel could measure up to any of the other great hotels we have stayed at. At this price it would have to be high above the standards - which it isn’t. First of all they reserve a nights stay on my credit card the day before we arrive. We know that can happen. But what we have never experienced is that we didn’t have that amount returned to our account until 8 days later - after we got home. I stayed at check in that they should deduct that amount in the full pay they asked for at check-in. But NO that was not possible. The reserved amount the took out of my account was pretty big - since the are overly priced so we actually was short of money on our 3 days trip!! And the fact that there’s was no welcome, not a smile - the receptionist not even looking at us at check in also adds up to what you pay for this hotel. There’s a hostel feeling about the whole place (nothing against hostels at all) but that’s just not what we paid for. On the second day after cleaning there was no clean towels for us so have to go to the reception to ask for that. Later in the afternoon and wanted to have a coffee in our room the dirty mugs were still there and no refills with instant coffee. Down we went again. Why didn’t we just call reception? Because no info pamflet whatsoever in the room. The lights in the room and the bathroom are extremely dim/dark. You can get used to that - but why? Never again staying at Espresso Hotel.

Fantastic Spot

We had been through 4 hotels in two countries as we took a whirlwind trip, ending in Amsterdam. We were so pleasantly surprised by every aspect of this place! Our favorite bathroom, the most spacious room and the only one that had TWO chairs, easiest heat to use and possibly even the cleanest … just outside that inner canal ring, just minutes from thé Rijks… it was a great location. AND the self serve cappuccinos available all the time AND a staffed reception desk 24/7 too. We felt welcome, comfortable and happy here. It was honestly the best nights of sleep we got during our entire eight days of travel.

As a couple we were really looking forward to re visiting this hotel but were left disappointed by numerous faults and issues in our room (506) ; mould growing in the corners of the room and between the bathroom tiles, a loose toilet seat and no fresh towels on day 2 or 3. The light fixtures were faulty and had no connection, dust on Shelving and skirting, hairs in the bed and stains on the mattress protector. We were told when checking in that there were no other rooms available. Room cleans were not carried out until 1130/12pm - guests could not comfortably return to rooms to collect belongings or change.
