Noisy overrated hotel

We stayed at Hotel Ta Cenc for 7 nights expecting to have a 5 star experience. Although there were positives, our experience was closer to 2 stars. Our first night coincided with a wedding party held at the hotel. We could hear the band/ music quite loudly in our room until very late at night. Considering we had been travelling that whole day, that was hardly the welcome we needed. Noise turned out to be a general issue at the hotel. With large construction sites just 10min walk away, we could hear constant noise from 8am to 4-5pm, whether sitting in our room or around the pool. Precisely what you don't want on a holiday. When we told management about this, the answer was that Gozo was a construction site. Had we known about this in advance, we would have stayed well away or cancelled our booking. Other lows included lack of tennis racquets for adults. We were told in advance we can borrow their tennis racquets to use on their courts but when we asked for them at the reception we were presented with children sized racquets, which was embarrassing to say the least. The equipment in the gym was outdated and often the gym opened 10-15min after the stated 8.00am opening time. Our room was well sized however it looked a bit tired and some fittings and furnishings showed their age. The manager acknowledged these issues. On the plus side, the food was excellent quality and the staff in the restaurant looked after us really well. The cocktails were amazing too and the views from the pool superb. On the whole, unfortunately we would not recommend the hotel to others.

Gorgeous situation, beautiful hotel and great staff

A week in the most beautiful part of Gozo, in a superb hotel, was just the tonic for the end of April in Scotland. We made a last minute booking to escape dreadful weather, and couldn't have made a better choice. The hotel is set in a wonderful location, with easy and scenic walks direct from the door. The decor is fresh and relaxing and immediately says "Mediterranean" in its shades of blue and white. Just in case the weather is not the best, there are so many comfortable areas to sit in and relax. The spa is also a treat in itself, with a heated pool and comfortable area to relax in after an excellent massage. We chose half board and that was fabulous. Wonderful choices which changed daily, good wine selection without breaking the budget, and the restaurant staff were all so friendly and helpful - attentive without being overbearing. Special mention to Natalie, who was the kindest and most lovely person to have waiting at table - although all the staff had smiles on their faces and should all be commended for their customer care. We enjoyed every minute, were sorry to leave and will most certainly be back.

The place is now looking much better since it’s recent upgrade especially to the gardens ands landscaping. Also the air conditioning system received a much needed upgrade. I visit this place quite often about 12 times in the last 2.5 years so I can see improvements since the hiring of an experienced Italian manager who is always ready to help. I feel like this magical place deserves to get to stars from me. You will love the spa pool which is heated and set in unique beautiful surroundings. Always a pleasure to visit and wind down. Breakfast is also very good and ample. Must mention David who is always ready to serve with a smile.
