Eviprides Hotel, Kardamena, Kos. Our two week family stay in August 2022
The wife and I have been to Kos a few times, mainly when we were young (20s) back between 2000 and 2005 and we've always stayed near the village of Kardamena. In 2022 we decided to take our kids to Kos and needed a nice hotel that provided good accommodation, good food and most of all, good value! Eviprides Village Hotel does all of these! It's location is a little out of the main village, but, it's only a 20 minute stroll along the sandy beach and you're in the village. Even better, hire a car from the hire company at the bottom of the driveway and you can park in the ample car park. The hotel ticked every box for us. It's clean and tidy and the staff are very friendly. The try to cater for everyone's needs, but of course not everyone can be catered for, but for us, it was perfect. The room that we had was clean and tidy and it was cleaned daily. We had two separate rooms for our stay as we had three kids with us, so I went in with my eldest two whilst my wife went in another with our youngest. However, Nikos the manager moved us into one of their larger family rooms which have connecting rooms, so we could all be together. He didn't have to do that, but he said it was so we could all be together as a family - that's how nice Nikos is! :) The room was very nice! Lovely and clean, with a fridge, TVs and comfortable beds. We had a shower and bath with large mirror. The shower was always piping hot on an evening. We opted for the All Inclusive deal, which meant breakfast and dinner were included. The food was excellent. It was freshly made and the staff always went out of their way to make sure that any issues were dealt with quickly. The breakfast was always fresh and hot, with coffee, tea and juice on tap! Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Toast/Butter, fresh pastrys, you name it, it was there! Dinner was equally as good, with lots of European dishes, along with some Greek ones too. The kids loved the chips though! :) Again, lots of drinks available, including draft beers, pop or juice. The bar next to the pool opened at 11am, just in time for a nice refreshing drink to cool off with as the sun warmed your skin. You could walk up as many times as you liked to order a drink from the barman, who would also bring snacks out around 2pm. There was also a small shop inside the hotel which sold crisps, ice cream and other things that you could use throughout the day. The pool was very well maintained, very clean and a nice place to be. No fighting over sun loungers either! They also had a private section of the beach at the bottom of the road, with sun loungers aplenty! We had a walk into the main village most nights, as we liked to meet with friends or go for some late dinner, however the hotel was also a nice place to be if you just wanted to play some cards around one of the many tables and enjoy a few drinks. The reception staff were always attentive and really tried their best to make the stay as nice as possible. Nikos even shared the home grown fruit from the many fig and orange trees which were around the hotel - lovely! We really enjoyed our 2 week stay here and would definitely recommend it to anyone who was looking for an all-inclusive hotel without the mega prices!
Lovely Hotel, don't listen to the reviews!
Okay, I have personally stayed at Evripides many times over the years since 2009. This year I came out with my best friend who has also stayed at the hotel numerous times. The hotel is 3 star yes, but the views and the friendliness from the owner/staff make it a 5 star in my opinion. Please remember that hospitality has really taken a big hit with covid over the last couple of years and trying to find staff is across the board not just at Evripides. The hotel does have a great selection of food and even the most picky of eaters will be absolutely fine looking for something to eat. They do also have snacks which come out mud afternoon, but I witnessed some people going up and filling their plates and not thinking about others, maybe that's just me being polite and considerate to only take what I need.? Kardamena itself has some amazing restaurants and bars, and the staff and owners could not be more welcoming, remember they also are just finding their feet after getting through the pandemic, so if it's not perfect don't moan about it! Pay three star prices expect 5 star treatment! I could go on about how beautiful the hotel is itself and I have already booked to go next year. I already look forward to the warm welcome I will receive from Nikos, Denise and Family who do work tirelessly to make the place as nice as possible.
Unloved, understaffed and disappointing
Whilst the staff (about 6 in total?) clearly did what they could, this hotel does not represent value for money and has few, if any, redeeming factors. First off, there were no staff when we arrived late in the evening, with only a handwritten note and room key left for us. The next morning we paid the tourism tax, but have since discovered the rate charged was for a 4 star hotel! Housekeeping was non-existent apart from a one time top up of toilet rolls - bins were not emptied for 5 days no clean replacement towels provided, bed sheets were folded but beds not made and the ashtray remained unemptied. The all inclusive aspect was the most minimal I have experienced - a poor selection of dishes and very few options for vegetarians. The hot drinks machine was turned off at evening meals and food selection was repetitive and often overcooked. Bar snacks were minimal and at times the bar was not manned at all. The swimming pool fascinated me, in that I am still unable to fathom how the water was so consistently cold despite the heat of the sun - the sea was far warmer and admittedly the beach is only a short walk away. The decor of the hotel is tired and gives the impression of being neglected in places, with little to no ambience except for occasional blasts of MTV in the bar area. All that said, if you want a quiet location and/or a base from which to explore the island, and are not fussy about food, facilities or luxury, then this is the place for you.
