Algarve Holidays

The southernmost district of Portugal, the Faro District has long been popular with holidaymakers. It forms part of the Algarve, a region known for its sun-drenched, sandy shores and that is considered to be the jewel of Portugal.

The capital city is distinctly Portuguese compared with the coastal resorts. The arrival point for anyone who flies into Faro, the city is a stopping off point for those on route to coastal resorts. However, laid-back and atmospheric, it offers a taste of typical Portuguese culture and invites many to linger for longer.

Laid-back and atmospheric, it offers a taste of typical Portuguese culture. The medieval quarter is fantastically preserved, home to ancient churches and curious museums, while the picturesque parks are tranquil and shady. The streets are full of outdoor cafes and quaint plazas, leading to an attractive marina. A fun-loving city, it has a busy nightlife that is notably local rather than touristy.

The city is close to several beaches, including the beautiful Ilha de Barreta, which provide the ideal escape from the heat of the city. It is also next to the Ria Formosa Lagoon, a large nature reserve with rich flora and fauna that attracts hundreds of different species of birds.
