And excellent holiday. The resort was clean and tiday and well maintained.
7 A La Carte restaurants were exceptional all offering something different.
The rooms were cleaned every day and on the one day we did not want ours cleaned or made up we got a phone call to check it was not a mistake.
The pools were vast and it did not seem like there were another 2000 guests and there was always a sunbed at the pool or the beach.
Staff were very pleasant and attentive and more than happy to help. With questions of any queries you may have, not that we had any.
Can't wait to return only for longer next time :-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by Rich78 Well run resort. Perfect for families.
While this large resort is a little tatty around the edges it is very well run. Efficient full time all inclusive resort, which has everything a family could want, just don't expect the lap of luxury.
7 excellent a la carte restaurants are highly recommended.

This is the only hotel I have EVER returned to.
We were there last Easter & went back again this year & I'm soooooo glad we did.Everybody at this hotel is dedicated to making your holiday happy, starting with the Reps on the coach from the airport, Reception/Customer Services Staff, Animation Team, Bousekeeping, Bar & Restaurant staff. - even the gardeners are friendly & I don't mean falsely friendly because they are hoping for a tip; I mean genuinely kind & helpful friendly; glad to be working in a decent hotel, with hardworking colleagues under, visible but not-intrusive, management.
Customer service, good food & cleanliness are a high priority at Sunrise Royal Makadi &, as far as we're concerned, they've got it just right !
The food is great, lots of choice & many themed restaurants, so it's not all hustle & bustle in the main buffet where there seems to be an unending selection of meat fish & veg to choose from, but the chance to sit down with a menu & have your dinner served in 1 of the al la carte restaurants if you feel like something a bit more peaceful.
We particularly love the Steakhouse, the Oriental, the Mexican & "Dalila", which had a Mediterranean theme.
A great activities programme if you fancy something organised, day & day. I enjoyed AquaGym with Marley at 11:30, Salsa dancing in the open air with John at 3:30 & my 20 year old son loved the water polo & beach volleyball. The evening entertaim was diverse & the animation team do a fabulous dance show.
The bars are well staffed so there are no annoying queues.
We went on the £70 trip to Luxor in a coach, which is a long day, leaving at 5am & not returning til 11pm, but well worth it; we got to see the Temple at Karnak, Valley of the Kings Hapshepsut's temple in the valley of the queens & had a wonderful boat trip on the Nile for only £4 extra as the sun was going down.
Others did the snorkling trip for only £20 from the jetty at the hotel, it's in the TCook itinery at the welcome meeting & had a ball.

I have read lots and lots of reviews on Egypt and the sunrise royal makadi resort. lots good, some ok so here goes mine. People are right you do get ripped off paying for your visa it's £13 or 15$ but you end up paying £15 or 18$. We took dollars as this was the cheaper option working out @ £12.60. Hurghada airport is a military airport and no servillians are allowed in so I think that's why you get ripped off. Maybe Thomas Cook should look into this!!! The resort is large and very very clean. The staff are all very friendly and some are so attentive to your needs it really makes the holiday rememberable. The room was large enough for the 3 of us, we had a room in block 10 which is by the family pool with slides. It was cleaned daily and our cleaner was really nice, if we saw him he always checked if everything was ok. The pool and slides isn't heated and it took us a while to get in it. The main pool is where all the activities and action takes place but the entertainment team do walk round letting you know what's going off and asking if you would like to participate, there are also notice boards with timetables on. There is something for everyone at this resort, an adult pool only, lots of entertainment throughout the day if you so wish or if you just want to relax they do leave you alone to do so. The staff are constantly busy, cleaners constantly cleaning. I've never been to a complex where the staff are huge but always busy. The complex was clean, tidy and well maintained. The Sunrise Royal Makadi was everything we expected and more. The restaurant staff and bar staff were great. Kerolos and Abul in the outside Pergola bar were AMAZING, very friendly and fun to be around. The food went from being fab (Asian) to ok. The breakfast you couldn't fault, so much choice it was unbelievable. Lunch you could choose from bar snacks or inside in the main restaurant and evening was even more choice. Some choices were ok but to cater for everyone is a hard task but I think they did great. RIGHT...the entertainment team. Well what can I say, these guys are AMAZING. You arrive as a guest and leave as a friend. These guys are the BEST entertainment staff I have ever come across, friendly and attentive above and beyond the call of duty. The hotel have got themselves a real gem in these guys. And on our leaving they all came out to wave all 3 coaches off, saying goodbye to everyone in person that they could get to. WOW, is all I can say and a big thank you to each and everyone of them for making my holiday that little bit more memorable. Thomas cook rep's were great and always there to lend a helping hand. I would like to return to this resort at some point in the future...thank you sunrise royal makadi bay for making my holiday :-)

Couldn't fault this holiday in any way. The hotel is gorgeous, a little tired in the decor but a refurbishment programme is under way. The staff can't do enough for you, they are all very friendly and concerned that everything is good. The management team are very much in evidence at all times. If you do have a problem, tell them they will fix it immediately. The pools, communal areas etc are clean and constantly being cleaned. It's great. Will probably go back.

Mikeyjay Superb all-inclusive holiday for family of six including grandparents and children
Our package holiday flight from Gatwick to Hurghada by Thomas Cook Airlines was unexceptional and the in-flight meal was good. Arrangements for shepherding us to our transfer coach were excellent with a TC representative every 10-20m! After a slick check-in, we were escorted to our accomodation in block number 38 which itself was the size of a medium sized hotel.
Our (adjacent) rooms were a double with twin king-sized beds and a family suite with a separate en-suite bedroom with twin beds for the two children. The adult beds were luxurious but the children's were rather too hard. Our block was quiet and we all slept really well. Rooms and en-suites were kept very clean although the hard floors were just swept rather than washed.
The resort complex is truly vast with a capacity of nearly 2000 guests. This does have the advantage that it supports a wide variety of activities hosted by exceptionally pleasant and friendly animators. four or five of the pools were heated. In February, those that weren't were colder than the sea, which was 24 deg.
The resort complex includes a private beach with a large protected swinning area. This had lots of Red Sea fish annd some coral althought better coral was off the adjacent hotel. There were just enough sunbeds on the beach in groups of two or three protected by windbreaks and wooden sunshades.
During our one week stay, we tried a different a la carte restaurant evrey evening and I would say that, without exception, they were all world-class with high quality cuisine and service. The choice of food in the buffet-style main restaurant was amazing. The various snack bars were also very good.
Without exception, all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Our return arrangements were faultless and all in all I would say that each of us had a really memorable holiday. I thoroughly recommend the Sunrise Royal, particularly for families.
