Egypt's unassailable position as one of the world's most dazzling destinations is well deserved. Nowhere else on Earth will you find such a wealth of ancient sites, fantastic year-round climate, inviting resorts with fine sands and unbelievably clear blue waters. The ancient Pyramids. The Sphinx. Tutankhamun's burial treasures. The museum of Egyptian Antiquities. Resorts on the Red Sea are divided into two geographical regions: the Sinai Peninsula, and the mainland coast, running approximately 1,000km from Zafarana to the Sudanese border. The chief resort on the Sinai Peninsula is Sharm el-Sheikh, although the smaller resorts of Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba are also attractive options for the more laid-back holidaymaker. On the mainland coast, Hurghada is the capital of pleasure, with Marsa Alam and El Gouna as popular contenders. Sharm el-Sheikh is widely considered to be one of the world’s finest diving centres, while Hurghada is well-known for its windsurfing.

Luxor is often combined, as part of a two-centre holiday with Hurghada. Packed with historical interest, Luxor is a convenient gateway for both the Red Sea coast and Nile cruises.
