Accommodation within Taroudant:
Taroudant is an ancient citadel, encircled by beautiful dusky pink walls with turrets and towers. The plains of the Sousse Valley spread out around the walls and orange, mandarin and olive groves thrive in the sunshine. An elegant town, it has been called 'little Marrakech' and the 'Grandmother of Marrakech' - either way you'll find that life has a slower pace but is still extremely colourful and atmospheric.
Location:
This oasis of a town can be found inland, 90km east of Agadir. It lies on the road to Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara desert, and has the snow-capped High Atlas mountains to the north.
Sightseeing:
Taroudant has retained its original character and a feast of traditional attractions that can be enjoyed on foot. See the Kasbah, wander the narrow winding streets and alleyways, exploring treasure trove shops and stalls selling the best metal wares in Morocco. The town has three main squares, offering great shopping so haggling can be main pursuit. There are hundreds of shops and a colourful souk that bursts with stalls selling local crafts, leather items, carpets and pottery.
Eating and Drinking:
There is no nightlife as such. The Palais Salam's Moroccan restaurant offers traditional fare such as chicken with lemon, lamb tajine and vegetable couscous.
Please note: the Thomas Cook representative service is unavailable inTaroudant, but guests will be greeted by a representative on arrival and provided with a welcome pack and an emergency telephone number.
