Experience cruising holidays on a grander scale aboard Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Silhouette
One of the newest ships afloat today, the Celebrity Silhouette is among the latest additions to the Celebrity Cruises fleet that attracts passengers looking for a high quality cruising experience on modern spacious ships.
Destinations and itineraries
Like a delicate orchid, the Celebrity Silhouette is at home in warmer climes. Until the beginning of December the ship sails the Mediterranean on cruises that typically last for 13 days. Culture, history, beaches and sunshine are all on offer. A 14 day Adriatic cruise begins in the magical city of Venice heading to Slovenia, and then returning to Italy for a stop at Ravenna. The ship then cruises along the Dalmatian coast, stopping at Split and Dubrovnik before heading to Corfu and Malta and then moving to Sicily, Naples and then Civitavecchia, the port for Rome.Read more
An Eastern Mediterranean cruise starts out from here and heads down to Naples, Malta and Piraeus, the port for Athens. The most famous Greek islands are next on the agenda including Rhodes and Santorini, with the ship returning to the other side of Italy, ending the cruise at Venice. The 13 night cruises leave in July and September.
At the beginning of December a 14-night transatlantic cruise takes passengers west from Civitavecchia to Florida, but not before making stops at Livorno, the Italian port nearest to Florence, Toulon in France, Barcelona in Spain and the Canary Island of Tenerife - spending seven days at sea before arriving at Fort Lauderdale. The American port then becomes the Celebrity Silhouette's new home for a series of Caribbean cruises that take in the Eastern or Western islands.
All Caribbean cruises are seven nights and ten days at sea. On the Easter Caribbean tours, the ship makes stops at San Juan in Puerto Rio, St Kitts and St Maarten in the Leeward Islands with two days at sea during the tour. Western Caribbean cruises take in the Mexican island of Cozumel, the Cayman Islands, Falmouth in Jamaica, Labadee in Haiti and then returning to Florida after another day at sea. Historic old towns, coral reefs diving, watersports and picture perfect beaches are features that appear on either itinerary.
Cruise ship and facilities
Built in 2011, the Celebrity Silhouette is one of a new class of ships with features that can’t be found anywhere else. There are 1425 cabins on board with a significant majority with balconies. A further 58 have ocean views and another 210 are on the inside of the ship. All rooms are equipped with flat screen TVs, clever storage and closet space, spacious bathrooms with quality showers and luxurious European bedding.
With double occupancy, the ship can carry 3,000 passengers. With the 1500 crew on board, the ratio works out at one crew member for every two passengers, placing it at the top end of quality service for cruise lines, particularly for a ship of this size. There is plenty of deck space and three pools on board, two out on deck and one indoors with a sliding glass roof.
Regardless of the sophistication, the facilities on board for children are rated as good. There is a fun factory on board for children and a tower club for teenagers as well as a video arcade and organised activities. A notable advantage of such a modern ship is that it is fully equipped to meet every passenger’s need for pampering, with a spa on board, a sauna and a steam room and beauty salon. For the more active, there is a fitness centre and aerobics on offer.
There are two dining rooms on board the Celebrity Silhouette, the Grand Epernay is the main destination, occupying two decks. Food is freshly cooked and the service excellent. Alternative dining options are available in speciality restaurants including the boutique restaurant Blue and the self-service Oceanview Café and Grill. The dress code on board is casual and comfortable during the day. In the evenings it can range from smart casual to informal. Formal nights require a dinner jacket or dark suit for men and a cocktail dress for ladies.
After a hard day sitting by the pool or being given a treatment in the spa, evening entertainment is provided in the Eclipse theatre. Films and cabaret entertainment is provided in Celebrity Central and there is also a nightclub and lounge for dancing.
