WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE ILL ON HOLIDAY
AND THE RISKS OF MAKING A FRAUDULENT CLAIM
In the unlikely event you’re ill on holiday, please let us know as soon as you can. We’re here to help and we’ve made reporting an illness very easy to do. We’ll help arrange medical treatment if you need it, and by reporting it, we can try to make sure it doesn’t spoil your holiday. This will help if you do need to make a claim in the future.
If you are ill while away and don’t report it in resort, it will change how we deal with your claim. We may be unwilling to accept your claim or pay compensation.
DID YOU KNOW THAT MAKING A FRAUDULENT CLAIM IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE
In the last couple of years there has been an increase in claims management companies and touts in resorts targeting British holiday makers. The offer is simple; say you have been ill on holiday and you could get thousands of pounds in compensation.
Making a false compensation claim for holiday sickness is an act of fraud. If prosecuted it could result in a jail term, criminal record and a large fine. In the last year there has been a series of cases where UK holidaymakers have had their illness claims dismissed in court and had to pay large legal costs or in some cases have gone to jail.
- At Thomas Cook we investigate all claims thoroughly
- We’re working with fraud investigators to check that all illness claims are thoroughly assessed
- Anyone making false claims may be prosecuted and may be prevented from travelling with us in future
- If illness isn’t reported in resort it will change how we deal with any claim submitted and we may be unwilling to accept your claim
