Great hotel very close to puerta del Sol and only a short stroll to Plaza Mayor or Madrid Atotcha train station
Jul 2020 |

The Hotel Urban was a great find and after reading many reviews, most people have this hotel spot on.

Its centrally located to the main tourist locations in Madrid. You can easily walk around to the large amount of good and bad (large chain) tapas bars and even take a stroll along Gran Via for some shopping.

The rooms are dark (as many reviews have mentioned) but still exceptionally enjoyable. We booked one of the suites which came with the glass enclosed bathroom and its curved wall making the couch and TV area a little seperate from the bed (just as they show in the picture via the hotel website).

The bathroom was a nice touch, but the shower was a bit of a letdown. It reminded me of a 2 star hotel with its plastic shower frame, and would have been nice to have a luxury touch since the entire bathroom was on display (quite strange).

The staff were brilliant, check in was a breeze and the staff on the door are helpful, friendly and just supurb.

On the rooftop is a small but enjoyable swimming pool (good luck getting a sunbed around the pool as the 7 or 8 that are there go quickly). This is nice in the summer of Madrid as not many hotels have pools. There is also a bar on the rooftop and some outdoor seating - which is brilliant to enjoy the hot sunny days in Madrid.

Overall we would recommend this hotel if you want a luxury, affordable, and close to the city hotel.

Good for business travel
Mar 2020 |

My four days at the Urban hotel was pleasant. The bed was comfortable, the room had everything I needed and the hotel staff was attentive. The hotel is a short walk from the Sol subway station and near several good restaurants. My favorite was an Argentine steak house a few doors away from the hotel.

High Style Luxury Hotel
Mar 2020 |

It's a very nice hotel. Excellent, 5 star gourmet restaurant and a nice bar that serves interesting seafood tapas. Rooms are very clean, the service staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating. The only thing I didn't like was the lighting system in the rooms. Instead of just switches, there were panels that had about five options for lighting. I just wanted to turn on the lights and all the options seemed to be a bit excessive for a weary traveler trying to put my lights on. The shower was a little bit difficulty as well. There are three big knobs to work to get the shower engaged. It was way too much of a test after a long day. I just wanted to turn on the water and take a shower, turning the shower off was just as much a problem. On the positive side the bath rooms are beautiful with frosted glass and modern fixtures.

An outstanding surprise was a little box of melt in your mouth house made chocolates that were beyond anything in the chocolate family I every had. I like the place, just would need to come in well rested to work the lights and shower.
