We stayed here many times and although we like the place a lot we had this time a different kind of service.
The 5 star service was about a 2 star and far under their normal high level.... I am not sure if COVID is to blame... management should look careful at ways of making guest feel special...

We are a family of four (kids 6 and 3 years old) and just arrived today from Vila Vita in Portugal and what a disappointing contrast on arrival. Firstly, Iberostar requires you to do a check in online and provide all the details you typically provide on arrival. The system simply doesn’t work as you get an allocation of less then 10 min to fill out a big form and after it kicks you out. We arrived by car and no one came to greet us let alone help us with the luggage. We waited at reception for a little while to get any attention and it felt more like entering a hospital (with all due respect given to new procedures as we live in Spain and well aware of all the current necessary measures). It felt like we caught them by surprise and didn’t feel particularly welcomed. At check-in we were told that our breakfast slot would be 8:30 as they were doing two shifts now due to the COVID-implemented measures and the next 9:30 slot was not available to us. We managed to get it after a lot of aggravation and speaking with a shift manager. Let me add that it was not mentioned at the time of booking.
We arrived late after a lengthy drive and went out straight to dinner. We came back just before midnight. The room wasn’t ready, the air con was off and no bed for the children (booked a family suite). It is past midnight and only now they are making the bed! The bed itself is basically a convertible couch that sleeps two and has spring gaps on both sides (nearly forgot they also brought just one pillow for the two of them). Meanwhile, my husband just left to get the luggage. So much for a five star hotel.
At check-in we were informed that the checkout will be at 11 as they will have to clean the room thoroughly after. We are talking 50 or below occupancy (though it feels much less at first sight) and no free option to have even a slightly later check-out. We are here for two night so let’s see what tomorrow brings but so far I’m close to packing up and heading back to Marbella. What a contrast with a true five star service and a magical stay at Vila Vita. Ps. Forgot to mention I work for a global travel agency and one of the reasons for staying in this property was to get an idea of the service quality which must become paramount now more than ever before...
Booked our Christmas 2019 holiday last minute (6 days before we flew) due to a change of plans. Booked through Love Holidays based on reviews on that site and Tripadvisor.
We flew into Malaga and drove to the hotel which was further than I anticipated, but on arrival at the hotel we were immediately impressed. The greeting at checkin included a glass of very good Cava (I'm not normally a fan), a small treat and a warm towel to refresh from the journey. The checking process was quick and simple, the staff excellent and helpful.
We had a varied stay visiting several local towns and cities, walking on the beach, exploring the local area. If we ever visit again we will arrange bike hire; the drivers are generally courteous and the roads un-crowded and proved a great option for getting around instead of the car.
In the hotel itself we ate 2 meals a day, with a very wide selection of food available for all meals covering all possible tastes including many diet specific options. The staff were always on hand to offer a recommendation, explain what something was or offer a personalised option if required.
Christmas dinner itself was especially good. The staff certainly made it a special occasion, and the catering team surpassed themselves with the very wide selection of seafood and other choices. We could not have asked for more.
I suspect that in the summer the resort is heavily used for Golfing holidays; with many local facilities available. This is not our thing, but did not detract form the holiday; it may be different at other times of year.
In all an area I would recommend, a hotel we enjoyed staying at so definitely recommended.
