Stayed here previously but in a standard room this time on the 6th floor 605 number Superior room. I was extremely impressed with the cleanliness issues of the receptionist who wiped the passports with a sanitized cloth and handled tour residencia cards by the extreme corner.
Christmas decorations was plentifu and all polished and cleaned.
Bedroom a make over involving orange paint had taken place. Flooring had been chnaged to laminate flooring. Previously outsideon the balcony there was only this dreadfull LED flashing lights system. Now white light bulbs had been installed in the centre to enable me to read my Kindle satisfactoy. No hooks hardly and toiletries.
When showering the hot water scalded me as it is too foerocious. (Be aware)
Restaurant: Lunch menu was far superior to dinner menu for example fish and chips at lunch and evening nothing spectacular. Breakfast porridge unavailable had to ask for it. Fried eggs was cold and only 2 available at a time.
If you wanted a glass of wine you was not allowed you was forced to by a bottle!
We was not aware you could bring your drinks in from the bar including a glass of wine. (BE WARY OF THIS WEEZE)
Lifts: The middle lift did not work well.
Car parking exiting is a night mare!
Apart from that everything else was enjoyable!
Bedrooms only 1 hook in Bathroom, not enough toiletries supplied and no bin in the room only bathroom, curtains did not open so althrough the night the flashing lights and alarm light kept you awake the flashing outside lights should be switched off by 11pm. The room layout is badly designed. Bolsters for the bed should be rid off and normal pillows instead.
Restaurant food was mediocre as there was far better choice at lunch then evening meal and we had not option to change over. Lack of porridge at breakfast and pancakes not cook seperately cooked with eggs and bacon yuk. I burn't my lip on a hot soup it was so hot they did not warn me.
We supposed to have a Free wellness session and ticket to Benidorm Palace but as both was shut no discounted price or refund was offered.
Apart from that it was ok and we would stay again but with our dog in a standard room as superior rooms are not worth it!
This was not my original choice of hotel, I was originally booked into Venus, it closed down, then Los Alamos, it closed down, then I received an e-mail about availability of Diplomatic. I spent 12 nights here over Christmas and New Year. I could not fault the hotel, immaculately clean and beautifully furnished. I had booked a single room, but on arrival was allocated a twin/double which offered greater space. Well equipped with free safe, fridge, and flat screen TV. Good sized balcony, the glass panels which appear clear by day, illuminate at night, and there is an electrically operated shutter with the control at your bedside. Spacious bathroom with walk in shower.
In the restaurant it was self service, after using sanitising gel you put on disposable gloves to select your food. The staff were first class, very friendly and efficient. There was a good selection of food, although there was a bias towards fish, which is not my preferred option, although the prawns and mussels on a Friday were really good.
There was a gala Christmas lunch and New Years Eve dinner, both of which were good, but I do have to question the cost of 155 euros for the dinner, over and above the cost of the meals paid for in the full board price, even allowing for wine with the meal, which is inexpensive in Spain, and the "free" bar until near midnight, when everything had to end due to Covid restrictions. I do feel the cost was disproportionate to what we received.
With all the usual Benidorm nightlife closed down, the location of the hotel was good, on the fringe of the old town and a short walk from the beach, but if things were normal and the nightlife was what you came for, then it was not ideally suited.
I will not be returning to Benidorm until things are back to normal, and although I was very impressed by the hotel and the staff, I will be returning to my favoured hotel, The Pueblo, also part of the same group. The location is better, and to be honest, the choice of food is also better. It is only a 3 star, but the facilities are similar to the Diplomatic, and it does have a far better pool, the two at this hotel are little more than splash pools and no good for anyone wanting to swim lengths.
I don't want this review to appear negative, I enjoyed my stay and feel lucky to have been able to be there, I got the last flight from Scotland before it would have been impossible to fly. Thanks to everyone who helped to make it enjoyable.
