Port Vista Oro

Port Vista Oro (ex Ona Sol Vista Oro) is in the Old Town district in Spain's popular Benidorm. The hotel has a swimming pool with an integrated kids' section surrounded by sun terraces, and it's just a short stroll to Levante beach and the promenade. There's a tennis court or you can work out in the gym or join in with an aerobics class. The hotel can organise water activities for you, including sailing. The hotel has two restaurants and three bars, and hosts family-friendly entertainment, such as live music. Benidorm's Old Town is more traditional than its better known New Town. The old quarter has narrow little streets with typically Spanish whitewashed buildings. You can eat the local cuisine in the famous Tapas Alley, and shop for crafts and souvenirs at the shops and market stalls. For bars, nightlife and more restaurants, the New Town is a short walk from the hotel. Centro de Marina shopping mall is also within walking distance. Benidorm has two other sandy beaches as well as Levante beach. If you want to explore further along the coast, you can arrange a hire car through the hotel. If you want to use public transport, there's a bus stop a short walk away.

Levante beach is 300m from the hotel. It's a long sandy beach edged by a popular promenade lined with bars and cafÈs. You can take a boat trip from the harbour to Benidorm Rock, the distinctive islet that dominates the bay, where there is a single restaurant and places to swim or picnic. There's a choice of seaside resorts along the Costa Blanca, including the traditional town of Calpe, which is 24km from Benidorm. It has an old town centre and a modern marina, and a choice of places to eat and drink.

There is one restaurant at Vista Oro, providing international cuisine and Mediterranean food. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hotel has a snack bar and two further bars. Snacks are available between meals, including ice cream, pizza and sandwiches. There's a supermarket 50m from the hotel.

The hotel has an outdoor playground for kids, and there's also table tennis, darts and pool. You can also join in with a game of basketball.

Each room has a balcony or terrace. There's a minibar, Wi-Fi and satellite TV. The rooms have air conditioning or central heating, depending on the season.

We've stayed at the Vista Oro 5 years running, that should tell you what we think of it.

All the staff are lovely, helpful to the point of being mind readers. The rooms are spotless and cleaned every day.

The bar area is modern and well served by the staff, my only very slight dissapointment is a lack of British beer, but what do you expect in Spain?

The main guests are Spanish, and the food and entertainment is geared to them and one of the reasons we love this hotel so much.

The only reason we are not visiting this year is because of the CV19 outbreak.

We wish everyone at the Vista Oro all the best possible wishes, hope you all stay safe and we will see you in 2021 for another wonderful holiday.

I stayed at the Port Vista Oro with 6 others for what was meant to be my stag do. We originally booked this hotel because it was cheap, close to the centre and just a bed for the night, however we received a far better service than I could've imagined, and I'm really struggling to understand people's negative reviews.

We arrived at the hotel on Friday 13th March 2020 and had booked to stay for two nights. The Friday was exactly what could be expected from a stag do, lots of drinking on the sea front and not a lot of time spent at the hotel. We then got news that Spain would be going into lockdown at midnight that night.

The following morning, after going hell for leather until midnight, we woke up to a good breakfast with real bacon and sausages (which is very unusual for a holiday). After a walk to the beach again to size up the severity of what we were dealing with, we returned to the hotel and chilled out around the pool for a couple hours. That was until the police shut that down and sent us inside.

With all of this going on, the hotel allowed us to use the full board services and have lunch and dinner for no extra charge.

Really, it's difficult to rate this hotel fairly because of the unique circumstances. On one hand, the staff were excellent considering what was happening, and the location of the hotel couldn't really have been much better. The rooms were fairly basic, but had comfy beds and did what you needed it to. However, the pool really doesn't get much sun, if any, and yes there are rooms that have a view of a solid orange wall.

The staff and location for me can get 5 but I can't give this an overall 5 because I have stayed in nicer hotels.

I think to sum up, if you're looking to book somewhere for your 7-14 day family holiday, I would probably give this hotel a miss. To be fair, I'd probably give Benidorm itself a miss. However, if you're looking for somewhere to stay with friends or a partner for a long weekend, I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. I will genuinely be mentioning this hotel to anyone I meet planning on going to Benidorm, and I'm even planning to book again next year when I can actually have a stag do in a bar, rather than a hotel room!

"Winter holiday at a great Hotel"
Mar 2020 |

Have just returned from two weeks at this long-established 3 star Spanish hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The hotel and grounds are kept very clean and tidy, and the staff are all friendly and very helpful. (Special mention to the Barman, Miguel who makes a great Mojito and has a wicked sense of humour). The buffet style food is very good, plentiful and freshly presented. It is geared towards Spanish cuisine but there were always chips for those who wanted them and a full English breakfast was available each morning. Having reliable, free WiFi was also a bonus. The Vista Oro is situated on the edge of the Old Town, but there are many bars and restaurants in the vicinity and it is an easy stroll to the seafront.

However, I will try and write a balanced review for the benefit of those British holidaymakers who may be thinking of choosing this hotel. I am in complete agreement with all the good reviews on Trip Advisor but there are some other aspects which need consideration. 1. We booked through TUI who do not have a Rep. on duty or calling at this hotel. However, we were given details of the 24 hour TUI Customer Service desk which is always available to answer questions if required. (It is worthwhile downloading the TUI ap. for confirmation of pickup times for the return journey which are given some 24 hours before departure.) I would stress that the staff at Reception all speak good English and are always ready to help. 2. It is true that the hotel is situated next to a school and that music is played to call the children into class and at going-home time. 3. Some of the rooms at the rear do look out on to a brick wall and the remainder over the school playground. All the rooms at the front look out over the pool and sunbathing area. The pool area is shaded but there was sunshine on the sunbathing area until late afternoon. 4. The hotel is 5 floors high with some 90 rooms, but there is only one small lift which can be a bit of a problem when everyone is coming down to breakfast or moving luggage. 5. There is musical entertainment every evening which goes until midnight, but as many of the guests when we were there were elderly Spanish the music was geared towards them. 6. The "all-inclusive" option runs from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. so if late night drinks are required they are charged for. These are the only negative points I can think of, and they are far outweighed by the positives.

Hope these comments are helpful.
