Absolutely loved my stay at Club Med Da Balaia! From the incredible views, to the fantastic service, everything about the stay was a true 10/10. My arrival with Laura was great, and she also was super helpful several times throughout the trip at reception. I particularly loved going to the Zen Pool - such a relaxing space (adults only), with great views of the ocean and a bar with delicious smoothies and juices. The food was great, I enjoyed both the buffet and the restaurant. Everything was very COVID safe - I was very impressed by all the measures the hotel took to keep everyone safe. I also want to call out the great job Max did as interim CDV - he gives each and every guest VIP service and takes the time to really talk to and get to know everyone. He takes customer service to the next level!! Can't wait to come back next year!
Just finished an amazing stay at club med Da Balaia.
I can’t think of anything bad to say at all - everything was fantastic. I was very impressed that they provide rooms for solo travellers, helping avoid the “single supplement”
I’ll start with my favourite part and say the (many) bars were brilliant. I liked to start my days of with one of Chloe’s detox juices at the zen pool, and I very much enjoyed Henrique’s Portuguese punch at the ocean bar for the Portuguese night aperitif. The service at the main bar was fantastic, a big thanks to Mosé, Ben, Yas, Flo, Polo, Luis and everyone else (sorry I can’t remember everyone’s names!) and a huge thank you to Cristina.
The circus team were amazing, and I was very lucky to be able to see a brilliant performance by then and the visiting performers on my last night. Thank you very much Shona, Fiona, Alex, Pierre and Enes ☺️
Food was exactly what I expect from club med - great quality and great variety. Grazie to Davide and Vincenzo, and everyone else from the kitchen.
Last but not least I want to thank Tania and Thomas from the spa, Thomas the DJ, Étienne from sports, Marco from the gourmet lounge and all the other GOs!
I felt compelled to write a review based upon an incident that occured just prior to our departure that left me feeling a bit sour about the resort when there were actually several good things so to keep perspective I will put it in sections listing both the good and the bad.
FOOD: The food was very good for lunch and dinner, staff was friendly. The Portugese staff especially seemed to be very proud of the food that they produced. I loved the fact that there was always a variety of different options, you never had to eat the same thing twice unless you wanted too. The kitchen manager was very friendly, greeting guests with a smile and cleaning tables as needed. Unfortunately breakfast reminded me of what you get at a lower priced chain hotel, not what i would expect for the price and reputation of club Med. I skipped it most days as it wasnt any good anyways.
MINI CLUB: Fantastic! My 2 children (5 & 8) had a great time. The staff spoke multiple languages which was helpful.
RECEPTION: Everyone was very friendly, especially Laura. As an American it was great to see a smiling face from home. She went out of her way to see that her guests were happy.
ROOMS: Very comfortable and clean. No complaints. Housekeeper was thorough and always friendly.
COVID 19: This was shocking! Too many people, no social distancing. masks were worn but people were next to one another in the restaurants and near the pool. Tables and pool chairs were not cleaned between people. Many times we didnt participate in the entertainment because of the overcrowding. It seemed as if there wasn't a virus.
POOL: Water was cold, not enough chairs for eveyone. Some people took more than one chair so that they could have a seat in both the sun and the shade.
ENTERTAINMENT: This is where it gets complicated. Shows were great most staff were very friendly. GO Ettienne was very friendly, and always seemed happy to be at the Club. Tennis team were fantastic, always up for a match which made my tennis loving husband very happy! The nightly shows were great. Most of the staff were great but like with all places there is always that one person... Here is where Club Med loses a star and I left the club feeling a bit angry to be honest. I had taken my son to the trapese not realising it was adults only session, I asked if it was possible he do it just once so I could see him. The circus director Enes said no if he broke the rules for us then he would have to for eveyone who asked. I understood so we left and went next to the trapese to archery. I happened to look at the trapese and there was a child on it! I guess the non breaking of the rule only applies to my family? Perhaps the Americans? The child was allowed to ride multiple times. I said something because my son was upset and felt as if he had been treated unfairly and to be honest so did I. When i said something he got smart with me saying we could get in the back of the line and wait then MAYBE he could do it. I left feeling mad as if the circus manager had treated us unfairly. I had wanted to tell the Resort Manager many times but never had the opportunity as we were leaving the next day. As Im writing this review I will probably be contacting management.
