Hi, The Charela has been around easily twenty years or more, and I have stayed there a few times. in my younger days. and when I had money. Our room, from what I can recall was ocean view facing the lovely beach. and calm ocean water. The food was generally delicious and we ate at the hotel often when they had a local show. If I had money I would go back in a "heart beat".
The Charela Inn was our idea of a perfect island getaway. Unlike an all-inclusive vibe, the Charela Inn provided a private, spacious and laid-back atmosphere that allowed you to breathe and relax without being compelled to do much more. The natural shade from the many lush and mature palm trees were a lovely and natural alternative to the all-too-common beach umbrellas at neighboring hotels. The clean beach and gentle waves were within just a few steps from our lounge chairs (of which there were plenty for all guests). The Charela staff was second to none, making a special effort to learn our names to provide more personalized service. A highlight of our stay was the entertainment provided on Thursday and Saturday nights, featuring talented Jamaican and non-Jamaican musicians. The restaurant was good, serving basic Jamaican and traditional American fare at a reasonable price. For casual lunches, there are several locations within walking distance of the hotel. One of our favorites was Best of the West, right across the street, which featured some of the best jerk chicken and drinks we had during our stay. Our room was beautiful, replete with an amazing (and brand new) jacuzzi tub, canopy king bed, and, best of all, an unobstructed view of the ocean and sunset. We met some lovely people while lounging on the beach, and they appreciated the Charela for the same reasons we did. The Charela Inn is the kind of destination you could count on year after to provide real rest and relaxation. We plan to return next year and are excited to experience once again everything the Charela has to offer!
Stayed here for first time for one week. Rooms are a bit dated but truly adequate for what we needed as only in our room to shower and sleep. Bed was super comfy. Beautiful white sandy beach with numerous palms for shade. Restaurant food was good.
