We have stayed at NH Porta Rossa in November 2018 and during these COVID times this this a huge pleasure to remember our visit. The staff were pleasant (especially Noemi, the guest manager), the room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good. We were provided with all the services and guidance that we have required.
The house is absolutely marvellous. Our junior suite was larger than the Medicis chapelle ! Our stay was truly a travel in time. The NH Porta Rossa isn’t an usual 5* hotel, there is a soul in this palace.
We had the junior suite with the bed placed in the middle of the floor that features in the pictures. It's a spectacular room with very high ceilings - which perhaps led us to need to put the aircon on to heat the room during the day as it got cold in October.
The staff in the hotel are upbeat, happy, friendly and helpful. In the COVID world we inhabit, their adjusted breakfast service is excellent, the choice good, the quality unquestionable and with the extra work, the staff are happy and still helpful.
One gripe is that the bar was not open due to the situation. I cannot knock any stars off for this, it's not fair. We as guests have to be intelligent enough to see the reasoning and not criticise - just be happy they are open.
Driving to the hotel is painful. It took me 2 days to find the way to get to the front door....my tip is to come in from the area near the station otherwise you'll get lost in the one-way flow of the ZTL.
