My friend invited me first, and after the first visit, I came many times and used this experience to treat my friends to spend a spa day together. Facilities are just beautiful, and the staff is so courteous and caring, they do everything to make you feel pampered. I can't wait to be able to visit again when it's fully back in operation! Absolutely 5 star!!!
We stayed in March, just prior to Covid lockdown, as extended family (3 different rooms) with long list of requirements and activities for the hotel, so I was able to observe the service and handling from variety of the perspectives & occasions.
Good things 1st - a truly Grand Place, worth to visit even if you are not staying there - for a lunch, or just to see it inside. I've got upgrade by Discovery to the suite and that was terrific - modern, fresh, spacious, beautiful and ultra comfortable. In-room service was great too - speedy, nice, and tasty food. We took breakfast both at the lounge and the main restaurant and experience was really good. We also got brunch and really loved it - the choice, the food and very affordable.
I had a long list of preparations being done by the hotel in advance and we extensively communicated for several weeks - as we were planning a special birthday and family re-union. They generally did very well with that - just few misses - but the transportation, dinner arrangements, a very special cake, full day around Budapest tour with private guide, private luxury boat for Danube cruise, etc - all was nicely arranged, booked, confirmed and mostly paid via hotel bill (was my preference). Staff in it most was professional and welcoming. At the end, I rate this stay as positive and might be coming back again, yet I think they could do a better inner communication, preparation and alignment for such a grand, almost flagship property.
Few things for development: rooms are very different, and while I reserved all of them, the outcome was some that inconsistent - I got Discovery move to suite (fantastic), the other guests got a pretty good room and then the 3rd guests got very old'ish and crappy room. Along those 3 bookings all done by me via Discovery, there was no consistency in terms of payments, breakfast, etc.
The team was very forthcoming for our special dinner and arrangement for that, bit declined to arrange the breakfast together - which came some that shocking to me that time, knowing that hotel was very empty (it was prior Covid restrictions). So at the end, we of course were pushing tables together, but I was disappointed by the original response. Also, the communications to staff about our celebrational arrangements were some that problematic - at any single moment I could have been speaking to a knowledgeable staff member and at the next minute to somebody who had no idea of all the special arrangements we made with hotel/reception.
My wife and I had planned to travel in the EU from April 2020 through November 2020 and then Covid-19 changed our plans. The EU closed the borders to American travelers. We begin asking for refunds stating that we were not canceling but we were being prohibited from traveling to the EU by government regulations so it was completely out of our control. Out of all of the cruise lines, air lines, hotels, tours, and transportation we had arranged for the entire trip, this is the ONLY hotel that would not refund our money. I had several email exchanges with them in which they reminded us we had booked non-cancellation accommodations and I explained that we were not canceling but being prohibited from traveling there. I appealed to their sense of fairness to no avail. I have learned a lesson about this hotel and it is one I intend to pass on to as many people as possible. I you decide to stay at this hotel, DO NOT PAY IN ADVANCE!!!
