Avra Beach is a family-friendly hotel on the northern coast of Rhodes, next to Ixia's shingle beach. Here you can grab a drink from the beach bar (open 10am to midnight), while the kids paddle in the shallow Aegean blue water. The hotel's freshwater swimming pool is set amidst palm trees and surrounded by sunloungers, for those preferring to catch some rays.
The little ones can join the Kids’ Club, offering animation and performances, as well as a playroom, a kids’ pool and a TV room showing cartoons. In the evening there’s a mini disco. The hotel also boasts a games room where guests of all ages can play billiards, table tennis, computer games and darts. Outdoors, keep fit on the tennis and beach volleyball courts or take part in a relaxing yoga or fun aqua aerobics session.
The hotel's buffet restaurant, featuring a show cooking corner, serves a range of foods with a variety of flavours and aromas. You may choose to wash down your dinner with a glass or two of the local wine. The daily breakfast options include coffee, fresh juices, tea, cheeses, jams, cereals, cakes, eggs, omelettes, waffles, pancakes and a variety of breads - the perfect way to start the day!
At Avra Beach you can either book a room in the main building or your own ‘bungalow’ (2-storey apartments). These have either a balcony or veranda and are ideal for family groups of up to four. Those preferring to stay in the main hotel block can choose to upgrade to a larger superior room or a sea view room. Whatever option you go for you’ll have WiFi, air conditioning, a safe, satellite TV, a hairdryer and a fridge.
If the natural shingle beach isn’t for you, there’s an alternative sandy option around 1km from the hotel. There’s also a number of bars and waterfront restaurants nearby. History lovers shouldn’t pass on the opportunity to visit the medieval old town of Rhodes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just 4.5km away. Here the Knights of St John built the first settlement around a small port and expanded it during the 13th century. Today you can see the remains of castles, temples and fortifications. A visit to the Archaeological Museum will help explain the bygone times.
